Public Health Program Coordinator Req number: R1626 Employment type: Full time Worksite flexibility: Hybrid Job Summary We are looking for a Program Health Program Coordinator to execute appropriate strategies to decrease the burden of early childhood obesity, while also focusing on embedding wellness initiatives into the early care and education (ECE). Job Description We are looking for a Program Health Program Coordinator to execute appropriate strategies to decrease the burden of early childhood obesity, while also focusing on embedding wellness initiatives into the early care and education (ECE). This position will be full-time and hybrid. What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the subject matter advisor on physical activity, nutrition, and obesity prevention for young children
  • Effectively communicate and encourage healthy behaviors and health education via verbal, written and interpersonal skills, including educational materials such as reports, newsletters, and visual aids through multimedia
  • Liaise with departments who work with early care and education providers
  • Assist in the completion of evidence-based strategies to improve access to healthy foods and physical activity in the youth population by utilizing toolkit and resource creation for ECE providers and by engaging new providers in the current professional development offerings
  • Carry out any federal grant requirements we may have which could include contributing to the development and implementation of performance measures and strategies concerning child nutrition and physical activity
  • Develop budgets and maintain a network of grantees if funding allows
  • Work collaboratively with diverse constituents and stakeholders
  • Ensure health equity is at the forefront of all wellness initiatives for educational settings
  • Serve on appropriate statewide health initiatives and coalitions directed at ECE providers
  • Engage state and local community stakeholders and partners in the implementation and evaluation of the Public Health and Human Services Block grant
  • Travel to service locations as assigned (minimal)
  What You'll Need Required:
  • Professional (Bachelor or Master) degree in public health, health education, health promotion, human or child development, family studies or a similar field of study from an accredited institution
  • Understanding of basic physical activity and nutrition principles related to public health
  • Basic knowledge of early care and education within Indiana including topics such as Farm to ECE, lactation support within ECEs, the ECE structure within the state of Indiana, licensing basic principles, and institutional knowledge on best practices for physical activity and nutrition ages 0-5
  • Ability to work alongside the Indiana Department of Health peers who work on ECE initiatives
  • Capability to plan, prioritize, and complete multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present information to large and diverse audiences
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software (Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff and various key stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • Considerable competency in understanding, interpreting, and articulating population-level data. Preference will be given to candidates who also have experience gathering or interpreting data and using research articles to guide wellness initiatives
  Preferred:
  •   Experience working in, or directly with an early care and education setting is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) change approaches for the ECE environment
  • Knowledge of the CDC Spectrum of Opportunities Framework for State-Level Obesity Prevention Efforts Targeting the Early Care and Education Setting
  • Some experience in or understanding of adult learning, training, and leading professional development
  • Certified in Public Health (CPH) or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) may be beneficial
  Physical Demands
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
