We are seeking a general physician who is a specialist in infectious diseases for a full time clinical role in the medical department of a secondary care general public sector hospital. The role has two functions- clinical services to in patients and out patients and membership of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee, with the purpose of providing advice to all multidisciplinary teams and management on medical decisions programs relating to Infection Control. This will include consultation support for the wider health provision (secondary and primary care) and will be a crucial part of the service development through facility upgrades, new building and process re:engineering. Key Role Responsibilities and Duties

  1. You will be the medical officer with responsibility for consulting on the management of patients with infectious diseases and infections within the hospital and in the community thus facilitating early discharge or community care. (i.e. Hospital in the Home (HITH) program).
  2. You will also be responsible for the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) in collaboration with the pharmacy and microbiology service. This will include supervision of practice with improved outcomes discouraging the indiscriminate use of inappropriate antimicrobial medications
  3. You will be a leading member of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee
  4. You will establish auditing processes and monitor community based antibiotic therapy.
  5. You will provide advice to the Service Manager, Medical Services, on Infectious Diseases/Infection Control management matters and professional standards of practice.
  6. You will provide supervision and instruction for Resident Medical Officers rostered to the Infectious Diseases/Infection Control service
  7. You will have the option to participate in the internal medicine rota if so desired.
Role Requirements To be successful in your application to this excellent opportunity as the Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician, we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:
  1. Medical Degree and FRACP or equivalent specialist qualification in internal medicine and infectious diseases
  2. A broad generalist scope of infectious disease practice and experience in an advisory capacity
  3. Eligibility for Medical Council of New Zealand registration under the vocational pathway in internal medicine
  4. Demonstrated understanding of departmental / service development and the provision of strong clinical governance.
Remuneration and Benefits If successful in your application to work as Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician, you can expect the following benefits:
  1. A salary in the range of NZD 190000-270000 pa DOE
