We are seeking an experienced and dynamic R&D Manager to lead our research and development team in the meat manufacturing industry. This role will involve overseeing product development, enhancing production processes, and driving innovation in both meat-based and plant-based product offerings. As an R&D Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our products meet quality, safety, and sustainability standards while aligning with market trends and consumer preferences. Key Responsibilities : Leadership and Team Management :

  • Lead and mentor a team of R&D specialists to drive innovation and ensure the successful development of new products.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture, encouraging creativity and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee project timelines, resource allocation, and cross-functional coordination to ensure successful execution of R&D projects.
Product Development and Innovation :
  • Lead the development of new meat-based, plant-based, and hybrid products by leveraging market insights and consumer preferences.
  • Oversee the enhancement of existing products in terms of taste, nutritional value, and texture.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and trials to optimize product formulations and improve manufacturing processes.
Process Optimization :
  • Innovate and implement new meat processing technologies to improve product quality, reduce costs, and increase production efficiency.
  • Develop and refine meat preservation and packaging technologies to extend shelf life while maintaining freshness.
  • Research and adopt automation technologies to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce human error in the production process.
Quality Assurance and Food Safety :
  • Ensure that all R&D activities comply with food safety regulations, including HACCP, GMP, and local food safety standards.
  • Lead efforts to improve quality control processes and implement solutions for product consistency and safety.
  • Oversee microbiological testing, sensory analysis, and quality assessments of products under development.
Sustainability and Environmental Impact :
  • Lead initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of meat production through sustainable practices such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, and alternative sourcing.
  • Explore and implement plant-based or cultured meat alternatives, responding to the growing demand for sustainable and ethical food options.
  • Guide the development of packaging solutions that are environmentally friendly, recyclable, and cost-effective.
Collaboration with Other Departments :
  • Collaborate with production, procurement, marketing, and sales teams to align R&D efforts with company goals, market demands, and consumer trends.
  • Provide technical expertise and insights to support the commercial scaling of new products.
  • Participate in meetings with suppliers, partners, and regulatory bodies to stay informed about emerging trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes.
Reporting and Documentation :
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on R&D activities, including findings, cost estimates, and timelines, to senior management.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of R&D projects, product formulations, test results, and quality assurance activities.
  • Present product development progress and outcomes to stakeholders in a clear and organized manner.
Qualifications : Education :
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Meat Science, Animal Science, Biotechnology, or a related field.
Experience :
  • 5+ years of experience in R&D or product development within the meat manufacturing or food industry, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of meat processing, packaging technologies, food safety regulations, and product innovation.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Skills :
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of meat manufacturing processes, including preservation, tenderization, and packaging.
  • Familiarity with alternative protein sources (plant-based or cultured meat).
  • Proven ability to drive innovation while maintaining cost efficiency and quality standards.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both technical and non-technical.
Desirable Attributes :
  • Passion for sustainability and ethical food production.
  • Experience with emerging food technologies or novel protein sources.
  • Ability to think creatively and out-of-the-box to solve industry challenges.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements for the food industry and international standards.
