Your Mission As a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Turbine and Compressor Systems at Hydrostor, you will play a vital role in the design, analysis, and optimization of our turbomachinery systems. This role is integral to the development of an advanced compressed air energy storage (A-CAES) product and will provide critical support for projects focused on building state-of-the-art air energy storage power plants. You will be part of a dynamic engineering team focused on pushing the boundaries of power generation and energy storage solutions. This role is essential for meeting the company’s goals of innovation and operational excellence. Your Day-to-Day Adventures Product Development
- Lead the design and specification of turbine and compressor systems for a next-generation advanced compressed air energy storage product.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, process engineers, and product managers, to integrate turbine and compressor systems into the overall ACAES product design.
- Develop detailed technical specifications, performance criteria, and design documentation for turbine and compressor systems.
- Conduct simulations, analysis, and testing to validate the performance and efficiency of turbine and compressor designs.
- Provide engineering support for ongoing projects involving the construction of advanced air energy storage power plants.
- Review and refine design specifications for turbine and compressor systems to ensure alignment with project goals and industry standards.
- Collaborate with procurement and construction teams to select, source, and oversee the installation of turbine and compressor systems.
- Participate in project meetings, providing technical guidance and ensuring that turbine and compressor systems meet all operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and optimization in turbine and compressor system design to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance system reliability.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in turbine and compressor technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into product and project designs.
- Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
- Develop and implement quality assurance processes for turbine and compressor system components.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including design reports, operation manuals, and maintenance guidelines for turbine and compressor systems.
- Provide training and technical support to other engineering teams and project stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. An advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a relevant field is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of steam turbines and turbomachinery design, analysis, and optimization.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.G., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and simulation tools (e.G., ANSYS, CFD).
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and material science.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design and maintenance of turbomachinery, with a focus on steam turbines.
- Experience with the commissioning and troubleshooting of turbomachinery systems.
- Proven track record of managing engineering projects from concept to completion.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build strong relationships with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements for turbomachinery.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to support project needs and operations.
