The Specialist Physician shares the same responsibility as the Consultant Physician for delivering high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centered care. The post holder is expected to exemplify clinical excellence within the Division and contribute to the supervision and training of junior medical staff.
Responsibilities
- Supports and adheres to all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives, policies, and procedures.
- Participates in the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and productivity and utilization review processes.
- Assists Consultant staff in ensuring adequate medical coverage within the Division at all times.
- Attends Divisional meetings as invited.
- Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents.
- Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Consultant Staff.
- Under the supervision of the Consultant Physician, diagnoses and treats patients according to established standards of best practice for the post holder’s specialty.
- Assists the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff and jointly assumes responsibility for their care.
- Complies with all hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient, and follow-up practices.
- Practices appropriate utilization of the organization’s resources.
- Leads ward rounds; reassesses both inpatients and outpatients regularly, in line with established best practices.
- Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely manner in accordance with established procedures.
- Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required.
- Liaises with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required.
- Actively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe, and holistic care for individual patients.
- Ensures preparation of patients for all procedures, including obtaining informed consent.
- Accepts clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals.
- Participates in and supports the Consultant Physician in ensuring the provision of out-of-hours on-call coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
- Communicates clinical information to patients and their families in a timely manner (with the consent of the patient).
- Maintains a good working relationship with staff and promotes collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care.
- Performs other clinical duties as assigned.
- Supports quality improvement initiatives within the Division.
- Promotes and participates in clinical research and publication.
- Keeps abreast of the current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.
- Complies consistently with facility policies, procedures, and practices.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of the role in accordance with facility policy.
- Maintains positive and effective working relationships within the department/division and with other departments/sections within the facility.
- Adheres to requirements of Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and infection control guidelines.
- Recognizes the necessity of continuously developing skills and acquiring additional knowledge appropriate to the position.
- Dresses appropriately to meet the expectations of the specific work area and in alignment with Occupational Health and Safety policies.
- Builds key partnerships within the organization for pursuing client-centered, comprehensive, integrated systems of care.
- Complies with any regulations related to mentoring, training, and development of UAE nationals staff.
Qualifications
Experience: Required: • Tier 1: No additional experience is required post board certification. • Tier 2: NLT 2 years of clinical experience post qualification in an internationally accredited institute. • UAE nationals: No additional experience required post board certification. • Tier 3: NLT 3 years clinical experience as a Specialist post qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
