The Specialist Physician shares the same responsibility as the Consultant Physician for delivering high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centered care. The post holder is expected to exemplify clinical excellence within the Division and contribute to the supervision and training of junior medical staff.

Responsibilities

  1. Supports and adheres to all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives, policies, and procedures.
  2. Participates in the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and productivity and utilization review processes.
  3. Assists Consultant staff in ensuring adequate medical coverage within the Division at all times.
  4. Attends Divisional meetings as invited.
  5. Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents.
  6. Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Consultant Staff.
  7. Under the supervision of the Consultant Physician, diagnoses and treats patients according to established standards of best practice for the post holder’s specialty.
  8. Assists the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff and jointly assumes responsibility for their care.
  9. Complies with all hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient, and follow-up practices.
  10. Practices appropriate utilization of the organization’s resources.
  11. Leads ward rounds; reassesses both inpatients and outpatients regularly, in line with established best practices.
  12. Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely manner in accordance with established procedures.
  13. Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required.
  14. Liaises with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required.
  15. Actively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe, and holistic care for individual patients.
  16. Ensures preparation of patients for all procedures, including obtaining informed consent.
  17. Accepts clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals.
  18. Participates in and supports the Consultant Physician in ensuring the provision of out-of-hours on-call coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
  19. Communicates clinical information to patients and their families in a timely manner (with the consent of the patient).
  20. Maintains a good working relationship with staff and promotes collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care.
  21. Performs other clinical duties as assigned.
  22. Supports quality improvement initiatives within the Division.
  23. Promotes and participates in clinical research and publication.
  24. Keeps abreast of the current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.
  25. Complies consistently with facility policies, procedures, and practices.
  26. Maintains confidentiality regarding any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of the role in accordance with facility policy.
  27. Maintains positive and effective working relationships within the department/division and with other departments/sections within the facility.
  28. Adheres to requirements of Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and infection control guidelines.
  29. Recognizes the necessity of continuously developing skills and acquiring additional knowledge appropriate to the position.
  30. Dresses appropriately to meet the expectations of the specific work area and in alignment with Occupational Health and Safety policies.
  31. Builds key partnerships within the organization for pursuing client-centered, comprehensive, integrated systems of care.
  32. Complies with any regulations related to mentoring, training, and development of UAE nationals staff.

Qualifications

Experience: Required: • Tier 1: No additional experience is required post board certification. • Tier 2: NLT 2 years of clinical experience post qualification in an internationally accredited institute. • UAE nationals: No additional experience required post board certification. • Tier 3: NLT 3 years clinical experience as a Specialist post qualification in an internationally accredited institute. Desired: • N.A. Educational Qualification: Required: • Qualifications from Tier 1 OR • Qualifications from Tier 2 OR • Qualifications from Tier 3 AND • Current national license or equivalent.
