Discover Waitomo is searching for a motivated Health & Safety Lead to join our team and make a meaningful impact in one of New Zealand's most iconic destinations. About the Role As the Health & Safety Lead, you'll work closely with the General Manager and senior leadership team to ensure our operations are not only safe but also memorable for visitors from around the globe. You'll play a key role in embedding health and safety practices, driving training initiatives, and supporting sustainability programs across the Discover Waitomo group. What You'll Be Doing- Lead the Health & Safety function, championing a proactive "every incident is preventable" mindset.
- Oversee incident investigations, critical risk plans, and emergency management strategies.
- Represent Discover Waitomo on the thl Global H&S committee and collaborate on group-wide initiatives.
- Facilitate staff inductions, training, and coaching to develop a high-performance team culture.
- Conduct regular audits and compliance checks, driving actionable improvements.
- Partner with senior managers to enhance our customer experience, aligning with sustainability goals.
- Monitor and manage rehabilitation and return-to-work processes for staff.
- Education & Experience:
- Leadership/management experience with a strong understanding of the tourism industry.
- Accreditation in Occupational Safety & Health or Workplace Health & Safety Management is highly desirable.
- Experience in adventure tourism operations or cave/cast environments is a plus.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Knowledge of New Zealand's Health and Safety at Work requirements.
- Proven ability to deliver exceptional guided customer experiences.
- Strong coaching and team engagement skills to foster a high-performance culture.
- Excellent communication, conflict management, and time management skills.
- Innovative, detail-oriented, and a lateral thinker with a solutions-focused approach.
