As the Risk & Assurance Advisor at Waitaki District Council, you will play a crucial role in optimising and managing risk and assurance frameworks, ensuring compliance, and enhancing staff capabilities. Your work will include developing robust strategies to identify and mitigate risks, strengthening internal controls, and providing expert advice on governance and compliance matters. You will lead audits, evaluate policies and procedures, and deliver insightful reports to support decision-making. This role requires collaboration across teams, offering opportunities to engage with diverse stakeholders while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. He aha taau e kawe mai | What you'll bring The preferred candidate will have:

• Qualifications and Certifications: A degree-level qualification or equivalent experience, with relevant certifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or CRM, and a full NZ Driver's Licence.
• Risk Management Expertise: Over 5 years of experience in risk and assurance advisory within a complex, multi-disciplined organisation, with knowledge of ISO 31000 standards.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in managing risk frameworks, conducting audits, and analysing data to provide actionable insights.
• Governance Knowledge: A solid understanding of governance principles, decision-making processes, and statutory requirements.
• Collaboration and Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
