Head of Engineering - Renewables

Job Description

Minimum Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (HC)
2. 15 years of experience in HV electrical field with minimum 10 years as a protection designer, 8 years in Solar and Renewable.
3. Professional Engineering (Pr.Eng or Pr.Tech Eng.)
4. Strong technical knowledge in Solar PV, off-grid batteries, and distributions
5. Comfort working with a small, growing company with aggressive targets.
6. Experience managing budgets.
7. Ability to understand commercial considerations related to projects.
8. Detailed understanding of design and operation of modern protection relay technology and substation automation and its application through to commissioning
9. Detailed understanding of the design of primary electrical plant in transmission and distribution substations
10. A working knowledge of the civil and mechanical engineering aspects of substations and overhead power lines
11. In-depth knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific technology and technical skills.

Your KPIs will include:

1. Conduct quarterly reviews for the Engineering division.
2. Manage and maintain relationships through regular contact with Senior Management Team, Substations, Project Accountant, Fellow Project Engineers, Tender Administrators, Site Staff, Design Office, Automation, Customers, and Suppliers.
3. Deliver a cost-effective design, meeting local regulations and industry best practices on time and with high attention to detail to ensure minimal site changes.
4. Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver all elements of Solar EPC or mini grid installations from geographical, structural, earthing, solar array positioning, distribution, generation, grid integration, and safe system.
5. Develop internal expertise and advise on technical matters on renewable energy projects and DLO sites to ensure that the most robust and technically compliant projects produce the lowest cost of energy over a period.
6. Manage and coordinate multidiscipline engineering project activities to ensure projects are executed in a safe, technically compliant, efficient, cost-effective, and timely manner.
7. Lead and manage the interface on engineering, procurement & subcontractor firming related to the development of renewable energy projects i.e. Solar PV, wind projects, and energy storage projects.
8. Identify areas of improvement in Engineering practices, and proactively make recommendations to the business.
9. Provide subject matter expert (SME) support and expertise to the project managers and project engineers.
10. Provide input into detailed design both internal and external to ensure efficient and cost-effective constructability.
11. Review detailed designs submission from design contractors.
12. Provide technical specifications and inputs to tender scope of works development.
13. Identify and keep track of all Engineering related Governance and Compliance issues.
14. Monitor and enforce quality and safety in accordance with company policy.
15. Conduct Technical Risk Management and communicate risks to relevant stakeholders.
