Position is contingent upon contract award.
As the Network Engineer, you will be responsible for installation, configuration, and support of an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), Agency Internet Network (AIN), Intranet and Internet, and other data communications systems or a segment of a network system; maintains network hardware and software. Monitors network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
May supervise other network support and client server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures.
Provide leadership/mentorship to junior staff.
Reviews network control center operations.
Provides support to projects that involve networks.
Performs a full range of complex network designs encompassing multiple technologies within a single network.
Evaluates new network technologies and makes recommendations to project managers regarding the integration of these technologies into the existing network.
Understands and helps plan new configurations for integration into the network, using knowledge of the performance characteristics of the systems being added to the network and the specifications for Network interfaces to ensure effective integration and optimal network performance.
Ensures that adequate and appropriate planning is provided for hardware and communications facilities to develop and implement methodologies for analysis, installation, and support of voice communications systems.
Provides support in the translation of business requirements into telecommunications (e.g., LAN, MAN, WAN, Voice and Video) requirements, designs, and orders.
Maintain network infrastructure as-built cabling/fiber documentation and diagrams.
Assists with research and implementation of enterprise system-wide network solutions/capabilities/enhancements to support customer business/mission goals and objectives.
Troubleshoots and resolves issues with network infrastructure and/or components.
Evaluates and monitors health and performance of the network including hardware and management software.
Maintains a road map for capabilities, operations, and technologies.
Assists with development and execution of test plans and supporting documentation of all network configuration upgrades, additions, or revisions for customer approval before implementation.
Supports network traffic analysis and bandwidth optimization efforts to ensure attainment of performance and availability objectives.
Evaluates and reports on new/emerging network/communication technologies to enhance capacity, performance, and reliability of the network.
Evaluates and recommends changes and/or technology upgrades to address performance, standardization, and industry best practices.
Follows all Customer network security processes and procedures, ensures compliance with all Government policies.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
BS or Equivalent (10+ Years Experience in DoD Network Engineering).
5+ years related technical experience in DoD Network Engineering.
3+ years of experience with large-scale enterprise/global network engineering in a high-paced diverse environment.
Required Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Enterprise or equivalent certification, IAT level III or advanced certification requirements per DoDM 8140.03 and shall maintain IAT level III certification requirements throughout the life of the contract.
In-depth understanding and experience with the DOD Architecture Framework and other key DOD network architecture and strategic planning instructions.
Required experience with a broad spectrum of elements such as radio, fiber optics, cable infrastructure, technical control, local and wide area networks, command and control systems, space communications, data recording, switched data/voice, video computing, office automation, automation security, network security, physical security systems, perimeter security systems, network and systems management and control, video teleconferencing, MPLS, and JRSS VRFs.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Voice Systems to include telephone switches such as Meridian SL-100 (or current telephone switch equipment), Regional Hub Node (RHN), Medium Distribution Node (MDN) and Area Distribution Node (ADN), or key telephones such as the AT&T Partner key system.
Data Systems to include troubleshooting and configuration of routers, hubs, and switches for both NIPRNET and SIPRNET connectivity; or, familiarity with the TCP/IP protocols (IPv4 and IPv6), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) 802.3, routing protocols, intrusion detection systems, firewalls, MPLS, JRSS, and VRFs.
Network Operations Center to include trouble ticket reporting systems such as Remedy; network management systems such as Solarwinds or CA Spectrum, or help desk services for all network problems.
Utilizing change and configuration management processes and procedures (Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)).
Proficient in Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Office applications, and AUTOCAD.
Proficient with tools used for network monitoring and diagnostics.
Proficient with terminal applications using Secure Shell (SSH), SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP), etc.
Experienced with DOD policy and requirements.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.
Travel:
May be required to live off-post. Some periodic travel between Qatar and Kuwait may be necessary.
Security Clearance:
Active Secret Clearance required.
