About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australias security, enhancing Australias prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas. The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australias pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests. About the Position Under general direction this position is responsible for providing high quality and timely research and analysis on political, social and economic issues relevant to the bilateral relationship between Australia and Ireland. The position also undertakes public diplomacy activities, which includes supporting with events/functions and social media engagement. Additionally, this position is required to fulfil the role of the Local Area Network Administrator (LANA) undertaking specific and limited ICT functions and supporting ICT users locally. The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: Undertake research and monitor media coverage to accurately report on Irish politics, socioeconomic factors, government policy, and issues of concern in Northern Ireland to support the Australian Embassy Irelands priorities. Draft speeches, talking points, biographies, routine cables and briefings for senior officers. Develop and maintain a network of contacts within relevant government authorities and the business community to support effective advocacy of Australias interests. Assist with Public Diplomacy activities and the Embassys social media content management. Assist with programmes for visiting Australian officials, Members of Parliament and Ministers as well as supporting the team with associated events and functions. Provide ICT support and assistance with the local monitoring of the Embassy ICT systems, equipment and user accounts in consultation with the Technical Officers based in London and Canberra. Provide day to day frontline ICT support and training, including with Microsoft Office Suite and mobile devices, including with reference to understanding applicable ICT policies. Required Qualifications/Experience Tertiary qualification in international relations, media and public relations, or a similar field, or relevant work experience Highly developed research and analytical skills, with a proven ability to prepare high quality written reports. An ability to show initiative, prioritise, manage time effectively, meet tight deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships effectively. Knowledge of Australia and understanding of the Irish and Australian operating environments. Ability to proactively identify opportunities to enhance achievements of Public Affairs and Cultural Affairs programs. Highly proficient ICT skills, including advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite and interest in further developing ICT capabilities. Proven ability to conduct comprehensive and high-quality research from a variety of sources on socioeconomic factors and government policy, analyse the findings to monitor trends, and present findings to a diverse range of stakeholders. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective stakeholder relations and to build and maintain mutually beneficial networks. Well-developed planning and organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a client-focused environment to achieve positive outcomes. Experience providing first-line ICT help desk support, troubleshooting support and guidance to both technical and non-technical users. Ability to work autonomously with strong initiative and a willingness to add value to a team by getting involved at all levels and in all areas, contributing to a friendly, collegiate environment.
