Through knowledge mobilization, we are catalysts for change in industry, government and society.For more information please visitour website.Purpose of the Position:Reporting to the Executive Director, Research & Partnerships (ED), the Senior Director, Research & Head, EDI, Talent & Diverse Networks is instrumental in the strategic oversight, intellectual development and management of CIFAR's research portfolio. They will also play a critical role in providing institutional leadership on addressing systemic barriers in CIFAR's research initiatives and expanding CIFAR's talent and reach into geographies and communities where there is currently a small CIFAR presence. They will lead the research portfolio in partnership with the ED and the other Senior Directors. Responsibilities:EDI, Talent & Diverse Networks:Build meaningful and reciprocal relationships with groups/organizations supporting the engagement of Indigenous, equity-deserving and Global South communities in research to support CIFAR's talent identification goals.Lead activities to ensure a more diverse pool of researchers apply and are considered during recruitment and selection processes.Advocate for and establish mechanisms to hold research teams accountable for addressing EDI disparities, tracking progress, and ensuring transparency in reporting EDI-related findings and actions taken to address them.Provide implementation guidance and support for research program EDI plans.Advance CIFAR's goal of providing leadership and driving change towards more inclusive practices in the broader international research community.Research Department Leadership & Program Management:In partnership with the ED, leads the intellectual development and management of CIFAR's research portfolio, including but not limited to departmental and cross-organizational operations such as staffing, operating plan, budget and data coordination and analysis.Collaborates with the ED on strategic planning and in the execution of the strategy.Build and maintain strong relationships with program directors, advisory committee members and program members through attending meetings and other formal and informal program interactionsOversee the appointments process for new members and advisorsOrganize and oversee program assessment including 5-year program reviews, distribution of collaborative funds etc.; facilitating constructive interaction between program directors and advisory committeesWork with team to develop and manage the research programs and operations budgets.Work closely with the other teams to develop, implement funding strategies and to monitor and steward partner and donor relationships and agreements.Work closely with Communications team to develop communication plans to promote the organization and the outcomes of the research programs impact agendasQualifications:Education/Experience required:PhD in the humanities, social or natural sciences10+ years experience with governments, universities, not for profit sector and/or research institutions in research administration.Core Professional/Technical Knowledge & Skills required for the position:Deep knowledge of EDI principles, frameworks, and best practices and experience in developing and implementing EDI strategies and initiatives.Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams and complex projects.Strong strategic planning and decision-making skills.Experience in mentoring and developing staff, with a focus on fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.Understanding of systemic barriers and challenges faced by underrepresented groups in research environments.Ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external parties, including research partners, advisory committees, and community organizations.Expertise in leading change initiatives and managing transitions within research and EDI contexts.Good understanding of financial, human resources and administrative methodologies to recommend organizational standards and practices and to monitor budgets.Apply:Qualified applicants are invited to apply by July 2, 2024.
