CORE PURPOSE OF JOBThe Department of Computing Sciences (CS) is looking to fill a position of Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer within the department with an enthusiastic, forward-thinking person who will contribute to the vision and mission of the Department in the role of a leader in the Department. The field of Computing Sciences includes Computer Science and Information Systems. There are three key areas of performance that academic staff members in the department need to meet, namely: 1) learning and teaching; 2) engagement and 3) research generally focused within the Department's research areas (descriptive topics available upon request).The main purpose of this post is therefore to facilitate and administer the learning process for students in modules presented by the Department at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, to supervise Postgraduate students, to mentor junior colleagues in the Department in the three key areas, to conduct research and regularly publish on such research, to contribute to community engagement and to be involved in core organisational functions of the Department, Faculty and University.KEY PERFORMANCE AREASLearning and TeachingFacilitate learning and teaching for assigned module(s) in accordance with principles of good teaching practice, which includes material development, engaging with students and module administration.Participate in the development and review of new modules/curricula.Mentor junior colleagues.Represent the Department at relevant Faculty and University learning and teaching forums.ResearchProvide research supervision to Postgraduate students, Honours, Masters or Doctoral levels.Manage or participate in research projects for the department.Generate research outputs for publication in the department's research areas.Mentor emerging researchers.Represent the department at relevant Faculty and University research forums. Engagement• Participate in Departmental engagement activities, which could include engagement with schools, industry, and other external stakeholders.• Represent the Department at relevant Faculty and University engagement forums.CORE COMPETENCIES Associate ProfessorKnowledge of advanced topics in the field of Computer Science or Information Systems.High-level cognitive thinking skills for setting and marking assessments and applying theoretical concepts to practical examples in learning and teaching.Leadership skills for module and programme development within the Computer Science or Information Systems disciplines.Supervise Postgraduate students at Honours, Masters and Doctoral levels to successful conclusion of their qualifications in at least the past 5 years.Recent and regular accredited research publications in at least the past 5 years.Manage and lead collaborative team research projects.Involvement in research funding applications and grants.Involvement in engagement activities and university organizational management functions.Senior LecturerSetting and marking of assessments that require high-level cognitive thinking for modules in the field of Computer Science or Information Systems.Application of theoretical concepts to practical examples in learning and teaching practice.Module and curricula development within the Computer Science or Information Systems' discipline.Participation in collaborative team research projects.Supervision of Postgraduate students at Honours or Masters.Publishing in relevant academic conferences and journals.       REQUIREMENTS Associate ProfessorA Doctoral degree in Computer Science or Information Systems.Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Senior Lecturer, incorporating teaching experience (e.g. lecturing, setting and marking of assessments, curriculum development, postgraduate supervision) and conducting relevant research activities.An academic background in programming languages such as C#, Java, Matlab and data structures.Involvement in institutional organizational functions at a management level.Supervised or co-supervised Masters and Doctoral students to successful completion.Research publications in accredited journals in the last five years in a relevant field. Senior LecturerA Doctoral degree in Computer Science or Information Systems.Minimum of 3 years related or relevant working experience as an academic or in a relevant industry in the field of Computer Science and/or Information Systems.An academic background in programming languages such as C#, Java, Matlab and data structures.Involvement in engagement projects and/or relevant management functions.Supervision of Postgraduate students.Research articles published in the last five years in a relevant field.  ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (e.g.  Contact person e-mail;
