This is a senior academic position within the Centre for Education and Lifelong Learning. The main responsibility of the post-holder will be to provide academic leadership to support the delivery and development of our initial teacher education programme for teaching in the Further Education and Training (FET) sector and to contribute to the overall delivery and development of CELL education programmes. The post-holder will be programme director for NCI’s Post-Graduate Diploma in Educational Practice for Teaching in Further Education. As a member of the Centre’s academic team, the post-holder will also advance the development of college-wide Learning, Teaching and Assessment strategies and policy and practice in these areas. As such, the role involves occasional responsibilities in relation to the professional development of staff and faculty on the scholarship and practice of learning, teaching and assessment in higher education and participation on academic committees. Centre of Education and Lifelong Learning The Centre for Education and Lifelong Learning delivers programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level on both a full-time and part-time basis, in the areas of initial teacher education for the Further Education and Training (FET) sector, early childhood education, adult and workforce education and professional development for educators. These include the Master of Arts in Educational Practice, Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Practice for Teaching in Further Education, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Early Childhood Education and Care. Key Responsibilities:
- Lecture to students on CELL programmes with combinations of early childhood education, education practice placements, digital literacy, technology enhanced learning and educational research methods.
- Act as an Academic Programme Director
- Design and deliver curriculum and education innovations in relation to programme improvement and academic enhancement.
- Occasionally develop and deliver teaching and learning professional development programmes for NCI faculty and staff.
- Provide professional support to students in their learning activities.
- Facilitate tutorials associated with lectures.
- Participate in programme committees as appropriate.
- Engage in academic research, agreed consultancy and development work as appropriate.
- Preparation for teaching and all other work-related activity.
- Provide such information as may be required by the College related to the activities of the role. Engage in the assessment processes of the College by setting and marking examinations and assignments and attending assessment boards and liaising with external examiners.
- Set, correct and give written feedback on project work, research work and dissertation.
- Undertake the duties of the role in accordance with the requirements of the College Quality Assurance arrangement.
- Liaise with library re: reading materials, booklists, etc.
- Develop new and existing course material, using new learning technology and delivery mechanisms in particular.
- Lecture on certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes on a broad range of education related subjects.
- Assist in the drafting of submission documents, liaise with the validating bodies, promote, implement and review programmes.
- Assist in the development of existing programmes and new programmes.

- Carry out research relevant to the field of education including regular publications and presentations in peer reviewed journals and presentations at both national and international conferences.
- Seek to promote and engage with external psychology bodies notably, PSI, with regard to professional membership and accreditation of psychology programmes here at NCI.
- Be available to students outside of class contact hours for guidance and support.
- Represent the college at functions and promotional events such as exhibitions, school visits, open days, recruitment evenings and other external events.
- Act as a supervisor or mentor for students completing specialist topics and dissertations.
- Work on short courses, training and consultancy.
- Visit students in placement settings as appropriate for educational practice programmes.
Key Requirements:
The appointee will be expert in education with specialist knowledge of scholarship and practice in at least one of the following areas: educational practice for teaching in further education and training (FET), Strategies of Learning, Teaching and Assessment, Educational Theory, Practice Placement, Digital Learning Design, Technology Enhanced Learning, Educational Practice for Diversity and Inclusion, Educational Research Methods, Education for Sustainability (the post-holder should have teaching competence in at least two of these areas).Qualifications & Experience Required:
- PhD in Education or closelyconnected discipline is essential
- Excellent teaching skills
- Demonstrate capability to developnew programmes
- Experience of initial teachereducation especially in relation to the FET sector
- Experience of teaching in HigherEducation
- Knowledge of Irish education sectorpolicies and practice
- Ability to prepare course materialand programme documentation
- Ability to work flexible hoursincluding evenings and weekends
- Ability to build relationships andcollaborate
- Adherence to professionalstandards of teaching
- Excellent communication skills,time management and digital technology skills
- Must be a self- starterwith the ability to work independently
- Active research and academicpublication track record in the scholarship of educational practice and/orlearning and teaching or related fields
