Job Description

Job Summary:

The Project Controls Specialist is responsible for managing and implementing project controls processes and systems to ensure the successful execution of projects within the organization. They will monitor, analyze, and report on project performance, including cost, schedule, and progress. The role requires a strong understanding of project management principles and expertise in project controls methodologies.

Responsibilities:

Project Planning:Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to develop and establish project control plans, including work breakdown structures (WBS), schedules, and cost baselines. Develops and maintains WBS for small projects.

Cost Management:Track project costs, including budget allocation, expenditure, and forecasting. Analyze cost performance data and provide recommendations to optimize resource allocation and cost savings. Develop cost estimates and perform cost variance analysis. Collects data and produces an initial analysis on manpower, labor hour, and labor cost requirements versus budget limitations. Familiar with the concepts and principles of project revenue and cost. Exposure to basic scheduling and cost baseline fundamentals, concepts and principles.

Schedule Management:Develop project schedules, critical path analysis, and milestone tracking. Monitor and report on project progress, identify schedule risks, and propose corrective actions to ensure timely project delivery.

Earned Value Management (EVM):Implement and manage EVM methodologies to measure project performance and progress. Calculate and analyze key EVM metrics, such as Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI).

Change Management:Assess and analyze project changes, including scope changes, schedule delays, and budget adjustments. Evaluate the impact of changes on project performance and provide recommendations for change control and mitigation strategies.

Risk Management:Identify and assess project risks and develop risk mitigation strategies. Monitor and report on risk factors that may impact project performance and recommend appropriate risk response actions. Recognizes processes/project actions that may lead to project financial impact.

Reporting and Documentation:Prepare regular project performance reports, including cost, schedule, and progress updates. Create dashboards and visualizations to present project data to stakeholders. Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure compliance with organizational and industry standards. Assists in assembling data for trending and forecasting. Understands progress/performance data and associated concepts and principles. Participates in the collection of progress data and review of performance trends.

Stakeholder Communication:Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to provide project status updates, explain performance metrics, and address concerns. Communicate complex project control concepts in a clear and concise manner. May participate in project cost review meetings.

Software and Tools:Utilize project controls software and tools (such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or other industry-specific tools) to support project planning, monitoring, and reporting activities. Stay updated with emerging technologies and trends in project controls.

Requirements:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in project controls, cost control, scheduling, or a similar role.

Proven experience in project controls, cost control, scheduling, or a similar role.

Proficiency in project management software and tools, such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent.

Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex data.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Knowledge of project management methodologies and frameworks.

Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in project controls.

Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis and reporting.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field
