Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/SS884780This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024.Leeming Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dynamic and approachable Student Support Officer (SSO) to join their incredible team.The SSO will, among other duties, assist in the day to day running of student support programs and should ensure an effective and responsive service for students, family members and staff. This may include supporting students with social and emotional needs, assist staff to support students and enable processes to aid in effective student integration into the curriculum. They form part of the Student Services team and work with the Student Service Managers to support students. The successful applicant will ideally develop supportive links within the school and the community and establish a network of partnerships with other government and non-government agencies. The SSO would participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences within the school and with other agencies as appropriate, including supporting students and their families to access a variety of health services and the provision of information and consultancy. They will also assist the School Administration team in crisis management and response duties as required.The SSO will record, prepare and collate information used to develop and monitor strategies and alternative programmes. They will research current issues for young people, participate in projects and provide written reports as required as well as contribute to the identification, planning and delivery of professional learning opportunities.To be successful to the role you will ideally have high level communication skills, the ability to work autonomously within a team and possess skills in conflict resolution and negotiation, strong networking skills and the ability to problem solve The ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships is essential.At Leeming SHS we have been welcoming families for over 30 years. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria): Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines.Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.
