Job Overview: The Chief Estimator (Manager to Senior Manager level) oversees and manages the estimation and costing process for construction projects. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in construction estimation and the ability to lead a team of estimators. The Chief Estimator is pivotal in ensuring that project costs are accurately assessed and aligned with the organization's objectives. Responsibilities:

  • Estimation Leadership: Lead a team of estimators in the development of accurate cost estimates for construction projects, ensuring that they align with project requirements.
  • Project Evaluation: Evaluate project specifications, drawings, and scope to determine the resources, materials, and labor required.
  • Cost Analysis: Conduct comprehensive cost analysis, factoring in materials, equipment, labor, subcontractor costs, and any other project-related expenses.
  • Pricing Strategy: Develop pricing strategies that balance competitiveness with profitability, considering market conditions and the organization's financial goals.
  • Bid Preparation: Prepare and review detailed and well-structured bid submissions for construction projects, ensuring compliance with tender requirements and deadlines
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and uncertainties in project costs and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Competitive Analysis: Conduct competitive analysis to understand pricing trends and strategies in the construction industry and incorporate insights into cost estimates.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather relevant cost data and insights.
  • Contract Negotiation: Participate in contract negotiations with clients and subcontractors to secure profitable terms while maintaining competitiveness.
  • Cost Monitoring: Continuously monitor project costs during construction, identifying opportunities for cost optimization and cost control.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized records of cost estimates, pricing data, bid submissions, and contractual agreements.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all cost-related aspects of construction projects comply with regulatory and legal requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in construction estimation are a plus.
  • Proven experience in construction estimation and management, with a minimum of 8-10 years in a similar role.
  • Strong financial acumen, with the ability to conduct in-depth cost analysis and pricing strategy development.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to use estimation software.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to lead and mentor a team of estimators.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and standards related to construction estimation.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in risk assessment and mitigation.
