An opportunity to work in a dynamic role supporting the Opposition Whip in the Legislative Council and Shadow Assistant Minister, Hon Laura Henderson MLC, Shadow Assistant Minister to the Leader of the Opposition, Shadow Assistant Minister to the Shadow Attorney-General, Shadow Assistant Minister for Child Protection, Youth, Government Accountability and Multicultural Affairs. The Whips Assistant is an engaging and fulfilling role that directly supports the Member in Parliamentary, portfolio, administrative, and electorate capacity. The Whips office is largely centred around the running and organising of day-to-day Parliamentary business and gives large exposure to the operation of the Parliament. The ideal candidate has efficient time management skills to handle the various roles, with effective diary coordination. They should be comfortable answering inbound calls and emails with a friendly and professional demeanour from constituents with complex enquiries, and from other offices and stakeholders. They should also possess a strategic attitude and willingness to collaborate with other Shadow Ministers, government, and stakeholders, and produce high quality policy and speeches for the Member. Primary duties:

  1. Constituent Management (handling and escalating of constituent enquiries, email management, phone management, letter and email drafting)
  2. Diary Manager & Executive Assistance duties (meetings, events, assistance to the Member)
  3. Communications & Graphic Design (take photos and videos and create basic graphic materials)
  4. Portfolio and Political Advisory (Research, stakeholder engagement, media monitoring and strategy, and paper writing)
  5. Parliamentary (speech writing, legislation, Freedom of Information applications)
Highly regarded skills:
  1. Diary and correspondence management
  2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  3. Letter writing
  4. Constituent management
  5. Graphic design
  6. Ability to take photos and videos
  7. Speech and Policy writing
Highly regarded experience:
  1. Previous experience working for a Member of Parliament
  2. Previous experience in Law
  3. Previous experience in graphic design - Canva and Adobe
  4. Previous administration experience
The commencing salary is $78,913.00 per annum (inclusive of 15% overtime allowance).
