Lead Mechanical & Interface Engineer is responsible for overseeing the technical construction interfaces and piping engineering aspects of a project from a contractor's perspective. This role demands strong coordination, problem-solving, and leadership skills to ensure a seamless construction process, integrating new work into existing facilities while minimizing disruptions. Ensures good preparation and coordination of activities between Client PMC Engineering and project interfaces, including all project external stakeholders, subcontractors, and third parties at the interface points during the execution stage. Ensure all interfaces are coordinated to perform sufficient preparations, assess all realistic problems, and encourage the development of solutions for interface activities such as substation tie-ins, cable trenching, and cable laying routing to support smooth execution in the construction phase. General Responsibilities
- Act as the primary focal point for all interface and piping-related activities for the project.
- Ensure compliance with project requirements, engineering standards, and safety regulations.
- Coordinate between various disciplines, vendors, subcontractors, other contractors, and the client to ensure smooth execution.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to the piping engineering team.
- Establish and manage interface coordination between different disciplines (Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, etc.), Contractors, Consultant & Company.
- Identify, track, and resolve interface issues between new installations and existing facilities.
- Liaise with the client engineering teams and construction teams to align on design and execution plans.
- Ensure proper documentation of interface agreements and changes in scope.
- Participate in technical meetings, risk assessments, and constructability reviews.
- Lead the piping design, stress analysis, material selection, and layout for the brownfield project.
- Ensure compliance with international codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI, etc.).
- Review and approve piping isometrics, P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, and material takeoffs.
- Address tie-ins, modifications, and revamps in existing piping systems while minimizing plant shutdowns.
- Develop and implement engineering solutions for clashes, interferences, and constructability challenges.
- Support procurement by providing technical evaluations for piping materials and equipment.
- Provide onsite technical support during piping fabrication, installation, and testing.
- Ensure that piping modifications align with as-built conditions and operational constraints.
- Coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning activities related to piping systems.
- Oversee hydrotesting, flushing, leak testing, and reinstatement procedures.
- Resolve field engineering issues and ensure alignment with construction methodologies.
- Ensure that all piping and interface activities comply with safety and environmental regulations.
- Conduct technical risk assessments and implement mitigation measures.
- Ensure that work is carried out as per quality management system requirements.
- Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, and constructability reviews for brownfield modifications.
- Work closely with project management, procurement, and site construction teams.
- Maintain effective communication with client representatives and regulatory bodies.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors and ensure timely delivery of piping materials and components.
- Provide progress reports and technical presentations to senior management and stakeholders.
- Minimum Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or equivalent) with 8-10 years in the Oil & Gas industry. Affinity and familiarity with Engineering Procurement and Contracting aspects in the business, both onshore and offshore.
- Have worked as an Interface Engineer on electrical & instrumentation projects.
- Experience and detailed knowledge of relevant drafting requirements.
- Experience working on ADNOC brownfield projects/plants is preferred.
- Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office products specifically Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Experience level: 8-10 years.
- 5 years or more experience in UAE or Middle East.
- Minimum 3 years as Mechanical Engineer with strong knowledge of discipline-specific drafting skills, codes, and standards practices.
- HSE compliance and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent personality with strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Personality and drive to support the Project Manager in managing the team to achieve the overall Project objectives with high professional competence and management skills.
