The Role: This position is responsible for the analysis, design, coding, testing and documentation of complex computer applications serving the subsidized housing market, and other markets, as they evolve. This software engineer role is expected to manage new development initiatives throughout the software development life cycle and to effectively assist junior staff and resources assigned to development projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Software development projects to include planning, requirements analysis, design, specifications writing, integration, testing and acceptance.
- Mentor, train, and coach junior developer staff assigned to development projects.
- Continuously improve the effectiveness and productivity of our software development processes.
- Keep current with, identify, and evaluate new technologies to apply to current and future needs for MRI Software products.
- Research and keep current with HUD regulations and other business logic which impact MRI customers and/or products.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and value added of existing MRI Software products, and offer creative ideas for new products.
- Ensure quality of work through development and implementation of QA procedures and standards.
- Maintain and collaboratively improve existing software development standards.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
- May supervise junior developers in a project management role.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- Certified FileMaker Pro developer in current FMP product line
- Minimum five (5) years of software development experience, including coding
- HUD housing certification is a plus
- Computer hardware and system troubleshooting experience
- System and software testing experience
- Project management experience is a plus
- Familiarity with Scrum/Agile development methods
- Knowledge of Jira is a plus
- Strong analytical skills
- Must be proficient in the English language including strong written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced problem analysis, judgment and decision making skills
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and clients
- Advanced knowledge of relational database architecture and design
- Ability to code software according to published standards and design guidelines
- Comprehensive knowledge of FileMaker Pro, FileMaker Go, HTML, SQL (MySQL), CSS, XML, PHP
- Ability to interpret reference materials and document expected impact on MRI Software products
- Ability to troubleshoot complex processes by identifying fundamental elements
