About the Opportunity The Structural Engineer Manager is accountable to the Head of Platform Design for the structural engineering and team management on a major program of work for the Collins Class - Life of Type Extension (LOTE) program. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in structural engineering who is looking to continue developing their technical leadership & management skills within a fast-paced environment. This is a full-time opportunity based at our Osborne site in SA. Responsibilities
- Lead a team of engineers responsible for structural guidance to the LOTE program and aspects of submarine design in areas such as:
- pressure hull,
- shock and vibration,
- pressure vessels and piping,
- stress and fatigue analysis,
- jigs and fixtures
- Oversee the design ensuring compliance with sound engineering principles, safety and regulatory standards, customer requirements and contract obligations.
- Manage the development and review of structural documentation such as structural calculations, work instructions, requirements specifications, test procedures and engineering reports.
- Maintain healthy channels of communication with internal and external stakeholders in a complex project environment.
- Ensure designs are completed within the specified budget and timeframe to support the timely and successful project delivery.
- Drive innovation in design practices by fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and teamwork within your engineering team.
- Bachelor of Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical/Aerospace, Naval Architect or similar (Degree must satisfy membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia at MIEAust level).
- Proven ability to lead a structural engineering team within a heavy engineering, shipbuilding and/or defence industry. Experience with submarine design is desirable.
- Demonstrated experience (minimum of 3+ years) in engineering management on medium to large, complex projects balancing competing priorities while being able to still meet project deadlines.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and lead technical teams.
