The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist – Pathology/Haematology vacancy. Participating in the laboratory within the diagnostic Haematology services of the Royal Hobart Hospital, the successful applicant will conduct diagnostic review meetings and participate in academic activities. Additionally, they will provide consultation services in General Haematology, Transfusion and other subspecialties of Haematology as required. Recent experience in flow cytometry and haemostasis is desirable. Who are we? Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community. The Staff Specialist- Haematology role is based in Pathology Services at RHH. The successful applicant will participate in the weekly roster to cover the daily reporting tasks along with other laboratory haematologists within hours. They will also participate in the after-hours on call roster. We provide a number of state-wide services which include flow cytometry, cytogenetics, specialised haemostasis, molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics. The Role 1. Patient Care:
- Participate in the laboratory in the diagnostic Haematology services of the RHH.
- Conduct diagnostic review meetings and participate in academic activities.
- Provide consultation services in General Haematology, Transfusion and Coagulation and other subspecialties of Haematology as required.
- Represent the specialty on hospital and other relevant statewide committees.
- Provide consultation and coordination and other services as required for management of haemophilia and other coagulation disorders in Tasmania.
- Provide undergraduate teaching of students of the University of Tasmania School of Medicine.
- Provide supervision and training of postgraduate specialist trainees.
- Provide workplace teaching to Pathology staff.
- Provide postgraduate teaching to other groups of hospital staff.
- Regular participation in Quality meetings, including identification and implementation of Improvement activities.
- Maintain involvement in research activities including supervision of research students.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the laboratory operations with a particular focus on providing patient-centred care.
- Provide administrative and supervisory functions to the unit as required.
- Work collaboratively with laboratory staff and other health professionals.
- Participate in an After Hours On-Call Roster.

- Holds specialist registration; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway.
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
