The Director of Development will be a key person in the delivery of SSE Thermal's ambitious 2030 strategic goals to deliver extended and optimised value from our operating assets (including over 5.0GW of flexible generation), more than 2.5GW of new low carbon flexible generation, 250MW of low carbon Hydrogen production, 150GWh of Hydrogen storage and reduce our carbon emissions by 70%. Reporting to the Managing Director of SSE Thermal, you will have a critical role in delivering on these strategic goals by leading SSE Thermal's project origination, development and targeted M&A activities across all low carbon technologies. The Director will be responsible for annual aggregate development budgets of £50m+, targeting delivering of highly complex projects to final investment decision with estimated individual capex of up to £1b. - As a member of the Thermal Executive Committee, you will lead, inspire, and influence a multi-functional team to achieve ambitious targets, driving a culture of commercially focused delivery ensuring that the projects are developed on time and within budget.
- Oversee the origination of new projects and project development up to investment decision across all Thermal technologies including Low Carbon Dispatchable Power, Decarb-ready Power, Hydrogen and Biofuels.
- Collaborate with all units of the business to take project opportunities from origination through to final investment decision.
- Identify strategic partnerships, business opportunities and develop business cases for capital projects across the business and lead on acquisition opportunities.
- Lead on the development and updating of business strategy and play a major part in delivering on growth ambitions.
- Track record of successfully delivering multiple large capital projects in energy infrastructure development.
- A proven project delivery and commercial leadership background.
- Collaborative and inclusive leadership style: you will have the ability to influence and inspire change across a diverse set of teams and stakeholders including government, joint venture partners.
- The ability to build a proud team by setting clear objectives, providing personal and compelling leadership, empowering and developing people to increase organisational capability.
