As the Engineering Manager – Mechanical within the Collins Submarine Program (The Program) you will be part of a specialised team responsible for supporting Australia’s submarine capability. This role will require technical experience covering submarine mechanical systems, including but not limited to the domains of:

  • Submarine Mechanical Propulsion systems.
  • Submarine Cooling systems.
  • Submarine Ventilation systems.
  • Submarine Compressed Air systems.
The role will require ability to gain a technical SQEP delegation (PEdel) in the technical areas listed above. Knowledge of Ships Information Management System (SIMS) and Collins Authorised Materiel Seaworthiness Delivery Organisation (AMSDO) practices would be beneficial to the role. Familiarisation with Collins class program, platform design and Life of Type Extension (LOTE) project would be beneficial to the role. About our Team The Submarines Division within the Naval Shipbuilding Sustainment Group (NSSG) is responsible for the maintenance and programmed upgrade of Australia’s Collins Class submarines. The Program works in partnership with the Royal Australian Navy and Industry to deliver the strategic submarine capability to the nation. The Collins Program has two key functions:
  • Sustainment work addresses the technical challenges of ensuring Australia's submariners are kept safe and that the submarines are operationally effective. You will be part of a broader collaborative team – each member contributing their specialist skills or knowledge from their domain to address the technical challenges of the day. This includes input and guidance from Operations (Navy Submariners), Project Management, Engineering and Technical, Manufacturing, Industry, Contracting and the wider Supply Chain.
  • Design and Upgrade work maintains the capability edge of our submarines through technology refreshes aligned to dynamic changes in our geo-political region. As with sustainment, this relies upon an “Enterprise approach” to drive the updates and upgrades that keep our submarines relevant. It involves working with Navy Capability, Industry (designers), system engineers, project management and manufacturers.
Our Ideal Candidate As the EL 2 Engineering Manager, you will be ready to work as part of a specialised community and contribute to supporting Australia's submarines. They will need to have sound base of technical knowledge upon which, through their capacity and self-motivation, to further professionally develop. The ideal candidate will need to possess sound and logical problem solving skills - balancing the achievement of outcomes to support operational demands with technical rigour. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to critically assess and prioritise solutions - adapting their application of technical and soft skills in response to changing priorities and challenges within The Program. They will need to have the tenacity to meet these complex challenges and achieve outcomes using their technical skills and knowledge. The ideal candidate will also possess excellent interpersonal skills along with good verbal and written communication abilities. The ideal candidate would be able to obtain a senior technical delegation (PEdel) within the Collins AMSDO and ideally have existing knowledge of the Collins AEO policy and processes.
