Manufacturing Controls Engineer

Dedicated to stoma care Location: Ballina Title: Project Process Engineer, Controls Hierarchical Level: Professional Division/Department: Ostomy, Ballina Reports to: Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor Number of Direct Reports: None Travel: 0 to Very Low Expectation (may increase due to project work) Summary: The Controls Engineer will provide automation support for new and existing processes/equipment. The role is pivotal in ensuring long-term viability of manufacturing at the Ballina site, supporting the development and delivery of controls solutions to reduce manufacturing complexity. The position will liaise with Global Engineering (GE), Research and Development (R&D), and Quality Assurance (QA) to effectively carry out its responsibilities. Responsibilities: Project Support:

1. Developing, tracking & communicating project plans for all control tasks in assigned projects.
2. Equipment Qualification – support/lead qualification of new production equipment/processes and ensure compliance with quality standards through execution of protocols.
3. Design & Implementation of testing protocols for new machines, testing that the machine vendor's code and logic performs in line with User Requirement Specifications.
4. Safety/Risk Assessments: responsible for ensuring safety compliance of control hardware/software, and supporting both conduction and timely closeout of risk assessments.

Process Support:

1. Providing specialized technical support in the day-to-day operation of the assigned manufacturing processes, specifically supporting the various control systems.
2. Troubleshooting problems encountered in the daily operation of the equipment.
3. Implementing corrective measures to machine issues and proposing preventative measures to prevent re-occurrence.
4. Ability to explain an issue and communicate the path forward toward resolution to value stream technical support staff.
5. This position may, from time to time, involve out of hours support.

Education Requirements:

1. Primary degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent.

Experience: Number of Overall Years’ Experience Necessary: 2-5 years Specialized Skills/Technical Knowledge: Candidates should have knowledge and, ideally, some experience in the following areas:

1. Industrial control systems
2. PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Yaskawa, Schneider, Omron)
3. HMI (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Windows-based HMI solutions)
4. SCADA
5. Process control including temperature and pressure monitoring and control
6. Motion control
7. Robotics
8. Vision systems
9. Electrical controls – maintenance & design
10. 2D/3D CAD skills – elect drafting/panel design
11. Project Management / FMEA
12. Industrial Networks (Ethernet, EtherCAT, Profibus, RS485, etc)
13. Industrial cyber security
14. Experience in clean-room manufacturing
