Your day at NTT DATA The Senior Director of Design Management is responsible for leading a team of Design Managers and overseeing design development on all NTT Global Data Center (GDC) construction projects in the Japan and APAC regions, from building programming through the production of Construction Documents and performance of Construction Administration. This effort involves coordination between NTT GDC experts and outside consultants including Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineers and Landscape Architects. The Senior Director of Design Management assigns projects and tasks to individual Design Managers, monitors their progress and ensures alignment with project budgets and schedules. They are also responsible for leading the design consultant selection effort. The ideal candidate will be a creative, detail-oriented problem solver with excellent communication skills that can achieve high quality standards while carefully considering cost and feasibility factors. This person should possess good judgment to meet project objectives, with the ability to collaborate and manage the accountabilities of a diverse interdisciplinary team focused on creating and maintaining the best Data Center environments in our industry. What you'll be doing Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day design related activities in the area assigning and managing workload of design team.
- Contributes to the continuous development of program standards and specifications.
- Collaboration with Product Team, Sales/ Sales Engineering, and Operations as to product to build, options and timeline, and provide solutions to meet project goals.
- Works with clients on pre-lease design projects
- Collaborate when needed to discuss new process efficiencies and/or new products and/or datacenter configurations.
- Oversee consultant strategy and reviews.
- Review appropriateness of design based on locality specifics, convention, local experience, climate, workforce and existing standards.
- Responsible for ensuring that design standards are followed unless project conditions warrant deviations. If so, obtain consensus and document.
- Ensure compliance with NTT GDC standards on all projects and assure that these standards are up-to-date with industry best practices and meet the company’s business objectives
- Assist in the preparation and review of budgets and forecasts related to anticipated design and construction expenditures.
- Develop and maintain vendor relationships (Contractors, Architects, Engineers, Consultants, etc.) to provide cost-effective services for data centers projects.
- Communicate status of projects to both internal and external stakeholders on an ad-hoc and formal basis. Ensure all stakeholders are up-to-date with regards to design schedule and potential issues. Prepare monthly project reports regarding the budget, schedule, and scope objectives of assigned projects
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in designing critical facilities and complex infrastructure, with leadership experience in the design industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
- Excellent leadership, team management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and collaborate with global teams.
- Understanding of engineering principles and best practices.
- Proven experience implementing processes in rapid growth environments and operating in compliance with global regulations.
- Skilled in creating collaborative environments, organizing meetings, and possessing strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or related field.
- Extensive experience (15+ years) in design of critical facilities and/or complex infrastructure, preferably in a leadership role within the design industry.
- Strong working acumen with CSA and MEP systems development; Architectural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering education or experience is a plus.
- This position is expected to be remote with travel approximately 15% of the time.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Must be willing to work to support a global business.
