About the function The Corporate Legal Team at Godrej Industries Group plays a pivotal role in managing litigation, overseeing contract negotiations and providing strategic legal counsel on complex projects and transactions. Collaborating closely with senior leadership, the team ensures seamless legal support across the organisation. In addition to managing the intellectual property portfolio, the team also oversees indirect tax matters, safeguarding the company’s interests and fostering business growth with a proactive, solution-oriented approach. About the role You will serve as a key member of our Legal team, responsible for navigating the complexities of indirect taxation, corporate law and litigation. You will provide strategic legal guidance, manage tax-related disputes and contribute to the company’s overall legal framework. Key Responsibilities : Indirect tax Advisory Advising on GST issues including relating to sales, supply chain, procurement and product classifications. Analyzing GST and customs implications of transactions. Assisting in standardising processes and developing SOPs. Indirect tax Litigation Assisting in handling GST and pre-GST indirect tax audits, assessments and disputes (including VAT, service tax, excise and customs). Drafting replies to audit observations, notices, appeals and other correspondence. Evaluating amnesty schemes for settlement of tax claims. Representing company before tax authorities and handholding regional finance team in their representations before tax authorities. Coordinating with external advisors. Tax Planning & Risk Management Identifying indirect tax risks and assisting in mitigation strategies. Evaluating business transactions for tax efficiencies and to optimize indirect tax costs. Internal Stakeholder Management Liaising with finance and business teams to ensure indirect tax considerations are integrated into decision-making processes. Assist in training internal teams on indirect tax matters including GST. Updates Keeping upto date on changes in indirect tax laws and judicial precedents and providing updates to senior management. Documentation & Reporting Maintaining detailed records for internal and audit purposes. Preparing periodic reports on tax-related matters, including litigation status, compliance reviews, and tax provisions. Who are we looking for? Education: Graduate/Postgraduate in Law Experience: 4 - 6 years’ experience, preferably in a law firm / litigation firm or tax team of a large company / MNC Skills: In-depth knowledge of GST laws; sound understanding of pre-GST tax framework (VAT, service tax, excise) and experience in customs matters. Strong communication and negotiation skills, including liaising with tax authorities. Analytical mindset with ability to interpret complex tax issues and providing strategic solutions. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Experience of working with cross-functional teams and managing internal and external stakeholders. What’s in it for you?
