- Evidence-based medicine
- Professional medical ethics and CBAHI / JCIA standards
- Hospital medical by-laws
- Laws of the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and any other applicable regulations according to the departmental quality plan
- Ensures that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion, and understanding is provided to every patient served at the NMC Hospitals and Clinics.
- Performs history taking, physical examinations, interprets common diagnostic tests, and documents patient condition on admission in the specified admissions sheet.
- Admits patients from the hospital E.R. after appropriate discussion and approval of the Consultant under whose name admission is done.
- Evaluates new admissions and coordinates with the Consultant to establish a diagnosis and management course, executing the plan approved by the Consultant.
- Conducts daily rounds to all patients in the department and liaises with the concerned Consultant about the care of his inpatients.
- Documents the plan of patient management and maintains appropriate records of all patients with accurate, timely, and legible completion of medical records, keeping an updated follow-up in the progress notes.
- Seeks the advice of the Consultant whenever the condition of a patient merits further expertise, working under the supervision and instructions of the assigned Consultant.
- Prepares discharge summaries, death reports, and special reports on related patients.
- Presents new admissions to the department through daily morning reports.
- Participates actively in the on-call rota of the department for patient care and admissions, responding to emergencies to offer medical care and advice on problems related to his/her specialty.
- Assists Senior staff (Consultant) in performing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures to patients in his field of specialty.
- Supervises Junior Staff in conducting their duties and responsibilities as designated by the department.
- Observes and upholds patient security, confidentiality, and privacy.
- Maintains appropriate records of all patients with accurate, timely, and legible completion of medical records.
- Actively participates in the department's educational and training activities.
- Abides by department Policies and Procedures as well as hospital by-laws, rules, and regulations.
- Carries out administrative or organizational duties as assigned by the Head of the Department in relation to ICU/CCU.
- Educates patients/families as per their needs and implements their role regarding the patient/family education process, including documentation in the patient medical record.
- Involves patients/families in the plan of care and respects their goals and choices.
- Provides health promotion and health teaching through methods appropriate to a patient's developmental level, learning needs, readiness, and ability to learn, language preference, culture, and situations.
- Allots necessary time to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education provided to patients/families with appropriate documentation.
- Carries out any other assignments as directed by the Head of Department within the realm of his knowledge, skills, and abilities.
