We share a strong Nordic Engineering heritage of high-quality and frontline innovations. We are now looking for Deputy HOD - Civil & Structural to execute projects and support bids in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Reports To This position reports to the Head of Discipline - Civil & Structural. Job Summary Under policy direction from the Head of Discipline, plans, organizes, integrates, directs, manages, evaluates, and reviews the activities, execution, and deliverables of the Civil and Structural Engineering Discipline; directs and manages the development of short- and long-term goals and objectives consistent with the Strategic Plan and annual business plan. Oversees and directs activities of the Civil and Structural Engineering Discipline including short- and long-term planning and the development and administration of discipline policies and procedures. Provides highly complex assistance to the Head of Discipline in a variety of administrative, coordinative, and analytical capacities. Key Responsibilities

  • Deputize for the Head of Discipline in their absence, managing all aspects of civil and structural engineering discipline.
  • Support the Head of Discipline to lead, inspire, support and develop the team to deliver high quality deliverables to the highest professional standards, and provide culture where staff can thrive.
  • Support the Head of Discipline, taking leadership roles in some areas of management of civil and structural discipline which could include communications, planning, execution, and effectively managing finance/budgets.
  • As part of the management team, you will be part of shaping operational direction of the project execution and develop or implement improvement plans and strategies.
  • Aside from your Deputy Head of Discipline role, you will act as Lead Engineer in projects and interact with the project engineering manager for solving technical problems arising during project development.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide Effective Leadership
    • Provide inspiring leadership to the team, guided by the implementation of our vision, mission and values into project execution.
    • Deputize for the Head of Discipline in their absence.
    • Accept responsibility and be accountable for day-to-day activities, provide an example for others, create an open, positive, collaborative, and inclusive culture.
    • Develop effective relationships with management, employees, and clients.
  • Executional Improvement and Quality Assurance
    • Support the development and implementation of plans to improve discipline execution.
    • Encourage all team members to share ideas and ensure regular open dialogue.
    • Participate in development and implementation of efficient, accurate and appropriate quality assurance, and monitoring control measures and practices.
  • Operational Management
    • Supports the Head of Discipline in managing projects execution and resource allocation ensuring that they are provided within schedule, to the agreed specification and quality, and within allocated project budget.
    • Support the Head of Discipline with the responsibility for health and safety, ensuring services are delivered using safe systems of work and do not endanger the health and safety or welfare of anyone.
  • People Management
    • Supports the Head of Discipline in recruitment, retention, support, and development of team within the allocated budget and ensuring staff levels are maintained and properly allocated as per project requirements. This includes formal and informal learning, training, and development and promoting the company mission and vision.
    • Supports the Head of Discipline in implementation of team development processes including appraisal, supervision and personal development plans focusing on retention.
    • Work with team to develop a working culture which reflects organization values, ensures respect, is positive, collaborative, open and honest.
    • Shall be an influential communicator who gains the support, trust, and confidence of colleagues.
    • Ensure that the capacity and skill mix requirements for the projects are reviewed frequently, in line with agreed scope of work and project demands. Monitor manpower usage, ensuring a close match between manpower capacity availability and need. Make regular assessments of progress, ensuring that any significant delays are dealt with satisfactorily.
Qualifications Candidate must be a team player, energetic and hardworking. Must be a good communicator and influencer with a positive outlook and mindset. Candidate must be physically and mentally fit to perform the job.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with 20 years minimum Oil & Gas experience and minimum 5 years in Management role. Post-graduate degree is a bonus.
  • Must have extensive experience with various technical aspects of civil and structural engineering and design work mainly focused in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Chemical Industries.
  • Must be able to apply technical competency into practical solutions to engineering problems.
  • Onshore experience is a must, offshore experience is a bonus.
  • Good verbal as well written communication skills, leadership and coordination, analytic and pro-active approach competence in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Chemical Industries.
  • Willingness to overcome challenges and pressure during project execution.
  • Well versed with ADNOC specifications and international codes and standards such as BS, Eurocodes, ACI, ASCE, AISC, API, etc.
  • Proficiency in using civil and structural software such as,
    • STAAD Pro with Ram Connections
    • Mat3D
    • Foundation 3D
    • SACS
    • Midas
    • SAP
    • Ansys
    • Excel Spreadsheets (Programming skills is a bonus)
    • 2D Drafting software such as AutoCad and Microstation
    • Familiar with 3D Modelling software
Preferred Skills & Experience Must have UAE local experience with ADNOC group of Company. Must have excellent communication skills, fluent in English language verbally and in writing.
