Our client is a successful multi-disciplinary building services engineering business with a headquarters in Kilkenny and a client base spanning Ireland, the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. Our award-winning practice has completed over 6,500 commissions, showcasing a wealth of in-house expertise through various projects. Emphasizing staff learning, development, and progression, we are entering an accelerated growth phase and seeking professional and enthusiastic engineers to meet the demand for our services. We are currently looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer (Intermediate/Senior level, depending on experience) to join our team to work on a range of projects. This position is based in Kilkenny. Ways of Working Commitment: The role requires working from the Kilkenny office initially for the first six months . Working from home/hybrid options may be available thereafter, depending on experience and agreement. Key Responsibilities
- Design of Electrical Services installations for buildings in the Educational, Healthcare, Residential, Commercial & Retail sectors, including electrical distribution, small power, containment, control systems, lighting (internal and external), emergency lighting, MV & LV electrical design, fire alarm systems, IT infrastructure, CCTV, and intruder alarms in compliance with current regulations and design standards.
- Demonstrate technical expertise in all aspects of Electrical/Building Services Engineering & Design.
- Develop detailed electrical design layouts, schematics, and calculations to meet industry standards and project goals.
- Address design and technical challenges to achieve optimal engineering solutions.
- Work directly with clients and project engineers to define project requirements and develop technical solutions.
- Develop and agree on design processes and deliverables.
- Prepare budget estimates, assess contractor progress claims, and variations.
- Maintain project documentation in accordance with ISO standards.
- Participate in QA audits, peer reviews, and technical workshops to foster continuous improvement.
- Stay informed on Building Services and Environmental Sustainability design trends through CPDs and seminars.
- Conduct site inspections and prepare reports on electrical systems.
- Review submittals to ensure compliance with project objectives.
- Monitor project timelines to ensure electrical designs are delivered on schedule and within budget.
- Lead projects from a design perspective, managing technical queries, design development, and timely delivery of updates.
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, as applicable.
- Contribute to tender bids, including writing technical reports and preparing budget estimates.
- Report on project performance to senior management.
- Minimum Level 7 Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering/Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
- Ideally 3 years of design experience in an engineering consultancy.
- Proven expertise in electrical engineering design.
- Ability to deliver projects in compliance with Building Regulations and Design Standards.
- Strong teamwork and independent work capabilities.
- Experience in client-facing roles with excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of electrical system designs such as power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and security systems in accordance with Irish regulations.
- Familiarity with ISO standards and project scopes.
- Proficiency in design software such as Dialux/Relux, Amtech, AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, or similar platforms.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
- Knowledge of current Design Guides, Building Regulations (including BCAR), and EN Standards.
- Full, clean European driver's license (or in the process of obtaining one).
- Proof of right to work in Ireland is required for EU/EEA nationals. Non-EU/EEA nationals will need valid permission to work and reside in Ireland.
