Kings School Al Barsha is offering a unique opportunity to join our outstanding team as a Secondary Special Needs Teacher in our Alternative Pathways program. We are seeking an outstanding classroom practitioner who is dedicated to creating a supportive and stimulating learning environment for students with additional needs. The role involves leading a bespoke classroom setting within a mainstream school, setting high expectations for students, and fostering their individual growth. The successful candidate will provide a nurturing and safe space where students can thrive at their own pace using a variety of communication and regulation strategies. The curriculum includes the National Curriculum, BTEC, and ASDAN, adapted to meet the individual learning needs of each student. Teaching will follow a functional, hands-on approach to encourage independence and develop life skills. You will lead a team of two learning support assistants to ensure a high-quality education tailored to the needs of your students.
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Education or relevant to the teaching subject plus SEND Qualification or Bachelor Degree in SEND Education or Inclusion.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Essential for this role, demonstrating your formal teaching credentials.
Experience
- Experience in the British Curriculum: Proven experience teaching within the British Curriculum framework is required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching students with special needs of varied levels.
- Experience working in Secondary SEN Schools.
- Proven experience delivering BTEC (Entry Level) and ASDAN programs.
- Familiarity with Makaton (desirable but not essential).
- Expertise in adapting curriculums to suit individual needs.
- Experience in teaching life skills lessons.
- Creativity in delivering engaging learning activities.
- Competence in developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Strong personal philosophy of education and a commitment to inclusive practices.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Deep understanding of supporting and removing barriers to learning for students with Social, Emotional, and Communication challenges.
- Ability to identify and address root causes of challenging behaviors, implementing effective behavior management strategies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of teaching the National Curriculum through a practical and functional approach.
