Apply now Job no: 502472 Work type: Fixed Term Location: South Brisbane Categories: Laboratory About the role Mater Pathology has an opportunity for a challenge-driven and experienced Immunohistochemistry Scientist to join our Anatomical Pathology Department. This is a fixed term 8 months maternity leave cover. Mater Pathology is the oldest pathology service in the Brisbane and surrounding areas. Initially established and supervised by the Sisters of Mercy in 1919, Mater Pathology has grown into a multi-faceted and technologically advanced laboratory service serving patients, doctors and hospitals. The service invests all profits back into patient care and is part of Mater Misericordiae Limited. Mater Pathology is proud of its history but also is recognised for its experience in highly complex pathology. The service is delivered by dedicated staff that understand healthcare such as our highly skilled specialist pathologists, scientists, technicians, laboratory assistants, collection phlebotomists, couriers and other support personnel that ensure you get the correct result on time. Our collection centres are located in over 20 suburbs supporting local communities. In addition, Mater Pathology also offers a 24 hour collection service out of the South Brisbane Mater Adults Hospital for patient convenience. Responsibilities
- Ability to deal with non-routine clinical practice. Broad understanding within the continuum of care.
- Demonstrate well-developed knowledge and skills in IHC, ISH, IF and special staining.
- Demonstrated expert knowledge in IHC, ISH, IF and special stains, including internal and external quality assurance.
- Exercise independent judgement and problem-solving skills in matters beyond routine day to day practice with infrequent clinical practice supervision.
- Integrate evidence-based practice to make complex clinical decisions within service area experience through professional development or formal qualification.
- Work in conjunction with the Supervising Scientist, Anatomical Pathology to ensure compliance to the Clinical Governance Framework and other accredited bodies.
- Ability to communicate well with clinical referrers during routine and high-pressure engagements.
- Attend onsite meetings as a Mater Pathology representative as required.
- Importantly, you will be enthusiastic and have a flexible approach to the work environment.
- A Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Medical Laboratory Science or a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Histopathology or an equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 7 years experience in histopathology laboratories and at least 3 years in an immunohistochemistry role.
- Experience in managing and training staff, and laboratory workflow.
- Highly organised with attention to detail.
- Participation and understanding of technical RCPA QAP requirements.
- Quality management including Internal auditing experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Sound knowledge of the industry.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with validation/verification report writing for NATA submissions in accordance with NPAAC guidelines.
- Comprehensive understanding of statutory legislation, regulations, NATA and ISO standards (ISO 15189).
