Senior Legal Role - General Counsel

Corrs’ General Counsel team supports the firm’s senior management, partners, lawyers, and staff with risk management, professional practice, governance, and partnership matters. The team is part of the firm’s broader Risk & Legal Excellence group, which combines a number of important functions to ensure a coordinated approach to risk management and excellence aligned with the firm’s strategic ambition.
About the role
This senior legal role provides legal advice and support to the firm’s senior management, partners, and staff across the firm on a diverse range of matters, including:- Professional indemnity matters
- Claims or potential claims against the firm
- Confidential investigations and reports
- Professional, regulatory, and legal obligations
- Other risk management and partnership matters.
Required skills and experience
This role would suit an experienced lawyer (Senior Associate or Special Counsel) with at least 5 years post-qualification legal experience gained in a commercial law firm or in-house counsel role, as well as:- Relevant experience in commercial litigation, insurance, and/or legal professional practice matters
- Strong technical skills including drafting, research, and analysis of legal issues
- Ability to combine technical excellence with understanding the firm’s business to provide advice and support that is accurate and in the best interests of the firm
- Sound judgement, high level of discretion and integrity, and excellent interpersonal skills
- Capable of handling multiple tasks and priorities, subject to tight deadlines
- Capable of liaising and interacting successfully with senior management, partners, and all levels of staff of the firm.
