Electrical, Instrument & Controls (EC&I) Engineer Location: Grangemouth & Edinburgh (with occasional travel) Contract: Permanent Salary: Competitive Nine Twenty Engineering & Manufacturing are partnering with a leading innovator in the biotech and process industry to recruit an Electrical, Instrument & Controls (EC&I) Engineer. This is a rare opportunity to join a cutting-edge company at the forefront of sustainable technology, developing green chemicals and biofuels through advanced fermentation processes. This role is instrumental in the design, development, and commissioning of next-generation process plants, with a focus on automation, instrumentation, and electrical design. The Opportunity:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce C&I designs for Feasibility Studies & FEED stages
  • Develop instrumentation indexes, wiring drawings, loop diagrams, and load schedules
  • Select and specify process control hardware (pressure, temperature, level instruments, control valves)
  • Evaluate contractor work to ensure compliance with industry standards & regulatory requirements
  • Lead and support HAZOP & LOPA workshops
  • Assist in project procurement, including tendering, negotiations, and supplier management
  • Provide electrical design support for plant upgrades and modifications
What We’re Looking For:
  • 5-10 years’ experience in C&I engineering within EPC or process industries
  • Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar electrical design software
  • Knowledge of ATEX/DSEAR standards & process safety
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Full UK driving licence & right to work in the UK
Bonus Skills (Advantageous):
  • Electrical Panel Design
  • Experience with PLC/DCS configuration
  • CompEx certification
