About the role : The HSU is excited to recruit a highly experienced Chief of Staff and Industrial Officer to our executive team. This role serves as a trusted strategic advisor, counsel and support to the HSU Secretary and Executive Team. Operating with a high level of autonomy, the position is fully accountable for the accuracy, validity and integrity of the content of advice provided. Main responsibilities include planning, directing and coordinating Union operational activities. The position holder will have responsibility for advising the HSU on strategic Industrial Relations and carrying out the HSU’s Industrial Relations agenda. This role operates within an external environment of high risk and sensitivity and requires significant judgement in determining risk positions for the Union. Permanent full-time position based in our Sydney CBD Head Office. Responsibilities :

  1. Identify risks associated with the executive management of the Union and develop and implement appropriate strategies and controls to mitigate risk.
  2. Provide strategic advice to the Secretary regarding the daily operations of the Union.
  3. Assist the Secretary by overseeing key priorities, initiatives and activities related to the overall plans of the Union.
  4. Help develop and execute strategy in conjunction with the Secretary and ensure its timely and quality implementation across all divisions of the Union.
  5. Negotiate on behalf of the HSU in forums across the state and federal governments and departments, external committees, and working parties.
  6. Contribute to the industrial and political strategic direction of the HSU.
Essential Skills and Experience :
  1. Demonstrated experience in a leadership role at a senior management level, preferably in an area of rapid change or transformation.
  2. Superior interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to form professional relationships at all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders.
  3. Demonstrated experience directing work of an industrial and political nature.
  4. Comprehensive understanding of the political priorities of the union and ability to engage in a nuanced approach to achieve these goals.
Remuneration : $160,000 + 11.5% (12% for females) Employee Superannuation Contributions.
