North Tasmanian Pathology Services (NTPS) provides pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the Northern regions of Tasmania. We are the only public pathology service operating in North Tasmania, aiming to deliver a high-quality service to general practitioners, medical specialists, and private hospitals, providing patients with no out-of-pocket expenses for Medicare eligible tests. The Department of Health Tasmania oversees various hospitals across the state, including the Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital, Northwest Regional Hospital, and Mersey Community Hospital, as well as district hospitals and ambulance services. Details of Appointment Permanent, full-time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as you can join the team. *notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum + 11.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging. Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award. In addition, the following allowances may be available:
  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,389 per annum
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum
  • Relocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointees
  • Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
  • Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
  • Fitness Passport – You and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $13.95 per week per person, or $25.95 for a family.
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role. Desirable criteria include:
  1. Experience in Cytopathology and Post Mortem procedures
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

    • Serious drug offences
