The opportunity - Te āheinga New Plymouth District Council is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Engineering Officer (Electrical and Control Systems) to join our dynamic Three Waters team. This role is pivotal in providing expert electrical and control systems support to the Three Waters service delivery and other operational teams across New Plymouth, South Taranaki, and Stratford District Councils. Responsibilities include:
  1. Project management of electrical and control systems for New Plymouth, South Taranaki, and Stratford District Councils, including providing detailed design, scope of works, and advising Project Managers on appropriate equipment.
  2. Electrical and instrumentation consulting with NPDC Project Managers on electrical design processes; safety in design, risk analysis, attendance in HAZOP meetings, specifying equipment. Responsible for root cause analysis, 5Why, and failure mode evaluation analysis.
  3. Programming advanced software for automation, supervision, control, and alarming management equipment.
  4. Knowledge of EIC best practice maintenance procedures and fault finding.
  5. Primarily responsible for reactive maintenance and support.
  6. Commissioning of pump stations and water and wastewater equipment.
  7. Responsible for backup power supply (e.g., generators, UPS, and ATS in CC, WW, WTP, STDC).
  8. Auditing JSEA's and PTW's for contract electricians/instrumentation techs.
  9. Providing and inputting as-built information for asset data collection.
  10. Liaising with SCADA Engineer.
  11. Collaboration with E and CS Lead to enable better technical decision-making.
  12. Technical support to other Three Waters teams and Council CCO's.
  13. Electrical Registration as defined by the Electricity Regulations 2007, or NZCE Electrical/Instrumentation.
  14. Expertise in instrumentation, electrical, and automated process control systems.
  15. Full clean driver's licence.
