Roles and responsibilities

  1. Transaction Processing
    • Payment Handling : Accurately processing payments from customers using various methods, including cash, credit cards, debit cards, mobile payments, or gift cards.
    • Giving Change : Calculating and providing the correct change when customers pay with cash.
    • Issuing Receipts : Providing customers with receipts, whether printed or digital, after completing transactions.
    • Handling Refunds/Exchanges : Processing returns, refunds, or exchanges in accordance with store policies, ensuring customer satisfaction while adhering to company guidelines.
  2. Customer Service
    • Greeting Customers : Welcoming customers with a friendly attitude and assisting with any queries related to pricing, products, or services.
    • Answering Questions : Helping customers with information about products, promotions, or store policies.
    • Resolving Issues : Addressing any concerns or complaints from customers in a professional manner, often in collaboration with supervisors or managers.
    • Upselling or Suggesting Add-ons : Depending on the business, cashiers may suggest additional products or services to customers, such as promotions or related items.
  3. Product Scanning and Item Handling
    • Scanning Merchandise : Scanning or entering product information accurately into the cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system.
    • Bagging Items : Packaging purchased items neatly and efficiently while ensuring that fragile or delicate items are handled properly.
    • Checking Prices : Verifying the correct prices for products or resolving any price discrepancies during checkout.
    • Managing Discounts or Coupons : Applying store discounts, loyalty program points, or coupons to customer orders accurately.
  4. Cash Handling and Accountability
    • Managing Cash Drawer : Ensuring the cash drawer has the correct starting balance and maintaining it throughout the day by managing cash flow and counting money at the end of shifts.
    • Recording Transactions : Keeping accurate records of daily transactions for reconciliation at the end of the shift.
    • Bank Deposits : Some cashiers may be responsible for making bank deposits or preparing the till for the next day.
  5. Maintaining a Clean and Organized Workspace
    • Workstation Organization : Keeping the cashier area clean and tidy, including clearing any clutter and restocking items like bags, receipt paper, and other supplies.
    • Sanitizing : In retail or food service settings, especially post-pandemic, cashiers are responsible for maintaining hygiene and sanitizing their workstations to ensure a safe environment for customers and staff.
  6. Security and Loss Prevention
    • Monitoring for Theft : Keeping an eye out for suspicious activity, ensuring that merchandise is properly scanned and that no items are being stolen.
    • Reporting Suspicious Activity : Alerting supervisors or security staff if any theft or fraud occurs during the transaction process.
  7. Compliance with Store Policies
    • Following Procedures : Ensuring all transactions comply with store procedures, including verifying identification for age-restricted products (such as alcohol or tobacco).
    • Adhering to Promotions : Applying any discounts or special offers accurately according to the store's current promotions or seasonal campaigns.
    • Following Health and Safety Regulations : Ensuring that all health and safety guidelines are followed, particularly in food service establishments or places where cashiers handle consumables.
Desired candidate profile
  • Perform returns and special transactions through the POS system, ensuring all special offers have been applied correctly before being charged to the guest.
  • Keep the “register station” stocked with all necessary items.
  • Notify management of all guests’ POS System issues.
  • Consistently maintain a balanced cash drawer.
  • Process all guests’ payments by cash, credit cards, debit cards and/or gift vouchers.
  • Ensuring each waiter closes up any open checks they might have before their daily report has been printed off.
  • Filling out all waiters’ envelopes at the end of each night, performing all calculations including but not limited to CC Total, Cash Total and Tips Total.
  • Processing end of service calculations, doing end of shift and end of day revenue calculations.
  • Perform related duties as requested by the management team.
  • Report to work as scheduled working various shifts including but not limited to weekends, holidays and/or night shifts.
  • Supervise the Assistant Cashier.
  • In charge of the monthly payroll of the team.

  • Hotel related experience field.
  • Admin knowledge.
  • Microsoft office.
  • Minimum of 1 experience in Food & Beverage area.
  • Pre-opening or major refurbishment experience in a similar operation.
  • Middle East experience.
