Who are we? The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) has the public responsibility of managing one of the largest and the most successful stadiums in Australia and the world – the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The MCG is more than just a stadium, it’s an Australian icon and a meeting place for generations past, present and future. About the role A great opportunity for an experienced IT professional with strong technical skills has arisen in this team for an experienced Data Systems Engineer. This role reports to the Data Lead and the key requirements of this role will include (however not limited to):
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd-level support for SQL Servers and databases to ensure system reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Design, troubleshoot, and optimize ETL and application data flows to support seamless data integration and transformation processes.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards (on-premises and cloud) and SSRS RDL reports to deliver actionable insights to stakeholders.
  • Monitor and support the MCC+ program by managing data flow operations and ensuring accuracy.
  • Oversee and manage Azure Live Dashboarding workflows and ETL jobs for real-time reporting.
  • Analyse and map the enterprise data system, resolving data issues to maintain data integrity and accessibility.
  • Build and design new data imports, reports, and dashboards to meet evolving business requirements.
  • Update SQL Server systems, apply patches, and ensure compliance with IT maintenance schedules.
  • Facilitate seamless deployments across Dev, UAT, and Production environments for reporting projects.
  • Provide backup for Junior DBA tasks during periods of high workload or absence to maintain team operations.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Data Engineer to enhance ETL processes and Azure workflows for performance and scalability.
  • Ability to manage ad hoc queries and take on team-wide responsibilities as needed to support business objectives.
  • Provide afterhours support as required.
About You To be successful in this technical role, it is essential that you are:
  • A self-starter with a can-do attitude with minimum 5 years’ experience in a DBA or Data Engineering role.
  • Proven experience in SQL Server administration, including applying patches, troubleshooting, and database optimisation.
  • Extensive experience with MS SQL Server, TSQL, MySQL, and DAX.
  • Ability to read and perform basic troubleshooting of Python code for QA & Testing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in ETL processes, data flow design, and troubleshooting in enterprise environments.
  • Proficiency in developing Power BI dashboards (on-premises and cloud) and SSRS RDL reports.
  • Experience managing Azure workflows, including Live Dashboarding and ETL operations.
  • Advanced critical thinking skills with a focus on system mapping and resolving data complexities.
  • Ability to design and implement data imports, reports, and dashboards that meet diverse business requirements.
  • Familiarity with deployment processes across Dev, UAT, and Production environments.
Qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
