An exciting opportunity is available within the Mercury Wholesale Markets team for a Spot Trader looking to develop skills and knowledge within the Electricity Industry. The principle function of a Spot Trader is to minimise risk and maximise Mercury's generation value within the New Zealand Electricity Market (NZEM). As the market runs 24/7, we are looking for someone to work on a roster basis covering days and nights at our Auckland or Hamilton offices, you will be rewarded with outstanding career development opportunities across the wider business, full training/support and great benefits. This is a gateway role which can progress to derivatives and portfolio management. Responsibilities include:
  • Manage the offering of Mercury's portfolio of generating assets in the NZ Energy Market
  • Oversee real time scheduling and dispatch of Mercury's geothermal assets
  • Implement prescribed trading strategies to maximise Mercury's trading value
  • Provide advice or management reporting in the following areas:
  • Transmission and Risk analysis
  • Portfolio and fuel optimisation
  • Energy margin and sales/generation volume forecasting
  • Engage in research & projects to further the long terms interests of company
  • Prototype and develop new applications and processes to enhance performance
  • Participate in innovation and cross-fertilisation of ideas for the development of the individual and the company
We're looking for someone who is able to demonstrate the following:
  • University or equivalent degree in Commerce, Operations Research, Engineering or similarly numbers/analytical process related disciplines
  • Competent in use of Excel
  • An advanced ability to provide comprehensive analysis and reporting
  • An ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider team
  • Previous experience of the Energy Industry desirable
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
