About the organisation The Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA) is the peak body responsible for establishing, coordinating, and advocating national standards in the practice of architecture for the benefit of the Australian community. First established in 1974 by the Australian State and Territory Architect Registration Boards (ARBs), the AACA and the ARBs continue to work together to facilitate a nationally consistent approach to the accreditation of architectural education and assessment programs on the path to registration as an architect. The AACA consults with key organisations, develops competency-based assessments, and administers the accreditation of architecture programs, in addition to facilitating international mutual recognition agreements, assessing overseas qualifications, and providing comparative data on architectural education and regulation worldwide. About the role The CEO will be an innovative and forward-thinking leader who enhances AACA’s reputation as a consistent, creative, and responsive service provider. They will challenge traditional approaches, inspire stakeholders to embrace change, and ensure national consistency while navigating evolving challenges with agility. Reporting to the Board, the CEO will have strategic and operational responsibilities including:

1. Governance & Risk: Lead corporate governance and risk management, ensuring AACA's goals are met by identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks within the social, political, environmental, and economic contexts.
2. Financial Management: Oversee staff, resources, and finances, including budgeting, procurement, and reporting. Align business plans with the strategic plan, driving revenue growth through effective and appropriate competency-based assessment programs on the path to registration as an architect.
3. Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with and build meaningful relationships with key stakeholders, including architect registration boards, government bodies, education programs, industry organisations, and international regulators.
4. Advocacy: Work with stakeholders to raise awareness of registration pathways, emphasise the value of registration, and address barriers to increase demand for registered architects.
5. Industry Research & Development: Develop consistent, high-quality data on the architecture profession, focusing on demographics, skill application, and market needs to support informed decision-making.
6. International Relationships: Strengthen global networks, maintain international agreements for qualification recognition, and promote knowledge-sharing on regulatory best practices.
7. People Leadership: Empower, support, and develop the team, leading by example to ensure consistent service delivery and sustainable growth.

About you The successful CEO will have:

• CEO or senior management experience in industry organisations, regulation, government, professional education, or statutory boards, and an understanding of standards and assessment in the architecture profession, will be highly regarded.
• Expertise in national accreditation, ensuring educational standardisation, and maintaining quality and consistency across professional standards.
• A curious and strategic mindset with sound judgment, adept at resolving complex business challenges, navigating stakeholder impacts and competing priorities, and approaching challenges with professionalism and empathy.
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to synthesise complex information and effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including government, higher education, industry representatives, and international regulators.
• Strong business and financial acumen with expertise in budgeting and reporting, system optimisation, and enhancing operational efficiency.
• A people-focused leadership style, dedicated to inspiring teams, nurturing individual growth, and building a positive and empowered workplace.
