As a result, we're looking for a Director of Architecture & Engineering to define and drive the technical vision and engineering excellence that underpin Moodle's product solutions. Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, this is an exceptional opportunity for a driven and innovative Technical Leader, in a role that will offer you fantastic challenges and opportunities to make an impact on a global scale. Fully flexible and working from anywhere in Australia, Spain or the UK , this is a brand new leadership role that will be integral to our ongoing success. What the role looks like This role forms part of our Products division's senior leadership team and is integral to Moodle's ongoing success. As our Director of Architecture & Engineering, you'll be at the forefront of modernising Moodle's technology stack, driving engineering management best practices, ensuring delivery against modern architecture principles, championing innovative technologies that align with business objectives & product strategy and driving compliance to development standards. More specifically, this entails:

  • Bringing together, leading and inspiring a global Architecture and Engineering team to drive best practices in development, QA, accessibility, and agile delivery.
  • Defining and executing the technical strategy in alignment with business goals and product roadmaps.
  • Overseeing the development lifecycle for technical modernisation projects.
  • Ensuring our solutions are innovative, scalable, and sustainable.
  • Financial management, including budget and forecast setting, cost and revenue management.
  • Creating an environment that promotes cross-team collaboration, open communication, and continuous learning.
  • Engaging with our community, customers, partners and the broader market to identify trends, industry challenges and problems that need solving.
Requirements We'd love to meet you Especially if you can tell us about your:
  • Proven experience in a senior engineering leadership role, ideally in EdTech, SaaS, or open-source environments.
  • Deep expertise in software architecture, cloud technologies, and modern engineering practices.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing architecture and engineering teams.
  • A strategic mindset with experience aligning technical vision with business objectives.
  • Technical skills and experience in hands-on work with the Moodle platform, infrastructure and integrations.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and a collaborative/team approach to execution.
  • Collaborative and team focused attitude, a willingness to embrace the culture and bring teams together, all with a genuine passion for helping Moodle advance our mission.
