About the role We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Head of Engineering to lead and coordinate our multi-discipline engineering team, driving innovation, quality, and efficiency across all projects. This is a high-impact role where you will shape and refine engineering processes , ensuring all disciplines work seamlessly toward company goals. You're skilled at identifying challenges and implementing effective solutions to ensure product designs meet performance, cost, and market readiness and best chance of commerical success. Key Responsibilities: Engineering Process Management:

  • Develop, improve, and maintain a simple, efficient, and reliable engineering process.
  • Manage ECN process, delegate, track and report product updates.
  • Ensure stage-gate meetings are thoroughly prepared for and effectively executed.
  • Monitor and drive quality and speed in all engineering disciplines to minimize errors and reduce costs.
Performance Metrics and Communication:
  • Define and measure engineering department performance metrics.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and achievements to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
Team Coordination and Collaboration:
  • Ensure all engineering specialisms are aligned and working cohesively toward company goals.
  • Actively engage with team leads and members to foster a unified and collaborative team culture.
Resource Planning and Project Oversight:
  • Monitor resource allocation and project loading, reporting under/over-staff situations or spare capacity.
  • Arrange overtime or additional work to address internal issues and maintain project schedules.
  • Evaluate the need for outsourcing during peak demand or for capabilities unavailable in-house.
Staff Management:
  • Oversee recruitment, welfare, and training assessments for the engineering team.
  • Conduct one-on-one reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Approve holidays and ensure adequate project coverage.
Design Quality and Compliance:
  • Ensure designs meet product requirements and are manufacturable in production.
  • Drive the team toward achieving industry compliance levels, such as ISO 9001, for seamless transitions.
  • Ensure designs are developed with certification requirements in mind from the initial phases.
Issue Management:
  • Spot and resolve impending issues before they become critical to timelines or budgets.
  • Manage and resolve complex decision points involving multiple stakeholders effectively.
Cost and Efficiency Optimization:
  • Control and improve department efficiency to reduce material and resource budgets.
  • Ensure tools, software, licenses, and equipment calibration are maintained to maximize team efficiency and output quality.
Cross-Functional Leadership:
  • Actively manage the three engineering leads while ensuring the entire team operates cohesively.
  • Drive alignment with production, supply chain, and other key departments to meet company goals.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role with referenceable achievements. Background in development of complex products involving multidisciplinary teams. Ideally server or IT industry but also automotive, aviation or power electronics products.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of product design, certification requirements, manufacturing processes, and engineering standards.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and unify diverse teams across disciplines to achieve shared objectives.
  • Problem-Solving: Adept at managing complex decisions and resolving challenges involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with technical and executive audiences.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with industry certifications and standards such as ISO 9001 is highly desirable.
