About the opportunity We invite applications from experienced and strategic Business Development Managers to join our growing Detpak Grocery and Convenience team part of the Detmold Group – a global innovator of sustainable paper and board packaging solutions. In this newly created position, you'll be based in Sydney and report to the National Sales Manager. Your primary focus will be identifying and pursuing new customers, driving growth, and building relationships and opportunities within the independent supermarket channel nationally. This role is offered as a remote working arrangement with access to an office in Sydney as required. To succeed, you'll need drive, resilience and a passion to pursue new business, along with strong motivation to exceed targets and satisfaction in closing sales. This is an ideal opportunity for someone focused on proactive client acquisition in the independent supermarket channels and new business generation, rather than traditional account management. As part of a cohesive, high-performing, and geographically dispersed team, you’ll receive support, care, and ongoing development to ensure your success. In terms of specific responsibilities, you will:
- Achieve sales budgets, new business & retained sales targets.
- Identify, evaluate, and convert new businesses opportunities.
- Build strong relationships with key customer contacts.
- Provide our customers with innovative packaging solutions.
- Collaborate with the Products and Brand Team to implement business development and productivity initiatives across all independent supermarket customers.
- Develop plans and strategies to execute sales activity to drive increased penetration of product and/or services into independent supermarket channel.
- Experience in a similar role ideally in the independent Supermarket, FMCG, Foodservice or packaging industries.
- Strong understanding of the independent supermarket sector and brands across all operational levels—store, state, and corporate.
- Experience partnering with complex, large-scale customers.
- Proven track record in supporting tenders and negotiations.
- Solid commercial acumen with an understanding of commercial objectives and P&L impacts.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships and networks.
- A current, unrestricted driver’s license.
