Job Title: Senior Electrical Designer Location: Remote Working (with occasional travel as required) Role The Senior Electrical Designer is responsible for developing high-quality electrical design solutions for multi-utility projects (typically up to 11kV, with higher voltage experience desirable up to 132kV). This role involves producing detailed design drawings, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory standards (DNO/IDNO, G81, etc.), and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and to client expectations. The Senior Electrical Designer supports the design function by providing technical expertise, mentoring junior designers, and driving continuous improvements in design processes. Key Tasks
- Develop and produce detailed electrical design drawings and technical documentation.
- Review client requirements, site information, and project specifications to create accurate, cost-effective designs.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards and regulations (DNO/IDNO, G81, ENA ER standards, etc.).
- Collaborate with the tendering and consultancy teams to incorporate technical and commercial requirements into design proposals.
- Participate in design review meetings and provide feedback for quality and efficiency improvements.
- Mentor junior designers and support the Head of Design in maintaining high-quality design outputs.
- Update and maintain design documentation and version control to ensure accuracy across projects.
- Assist in the preparation of tender submissions by providing technical expertise and clarifications as needed.
- Strong technical expertise in electrical design for multi-utility projects, including both high and low-voltage systems.
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Windebut, Trimble and similar tools).
- Excellent ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and network diagrams.
- In-depth understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., DNO/IDNO, G81, ENA ER standards).
- Ability to work collaboratively with tender, consultancy, and operations teams.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in advanced design methodologies, including generation connection design
- Familiarity with project management principles and practices.
- Membership in relevant professional bodies.
- Relevant technical qualification (e.g., NVQ/HNC/HND or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- Pofessional certifications in engineering.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in electrical design roles within the utility or construction industry.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality designs on time and within budget.
- Experience in designing for multi-utility projects (typically up to 33kV)
- Exposure to projects involving higher voltage (up to 132kV) or generation work.
- Experience working on integrated tender and design projects, with cross-department collaboration.
