About the Role: The RCH Ophthalmology Department is seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a subspecialty in Paediatric Ophthalmology to join the team on a Part Time Fixed Term basis from 1 June 2025 until the end of November 2025. You will be responsible for delivering paediatric ophthalmic care to referred inpatients and outpatients of the Royal Children's Hospital Ophthalmology Department. You will work in a supportive team environment, comprising of ophthalmologists, orthoptists and junior medical staff. Additional responsibilities within the role include (but are not limited to) providing active clinical supervision and training to junior medical staff, medical students and allied health colleagues and students. We are seeking an ophthalmologist with experience and strong clinical skills in general paediatric eye care provision, who has a positive mindset and demonstrates strong skills in communication and collaboration. What you'll achieve:

1. Providing paediatric ophthalmic care to referred inpatients and outpatients in the RCH Ophthalmology outpatient clinic and surgical setting.
2. Providing interdepartmental consultation service as required to patients under the care of RCH and to liaise in a timely and effective manner with internal colleagues.
3. Working within the scope of practice relevant to the role - which will be determined with the Director, Department of Ophthalmology.
4. Being actively involved in supervision and training of ophthalmology registrars, ophthalmology fellows, medical students, orthoptists and orthoptic students.
5. Contributing to department meetings and auditing processes.
6. Involvement in department clinical research activities.
7. Keeping accurate, timely and concise clinical documentation of all episodes of patient care in the patient's medical record.

Your skills and experience:

• Legal qualifications as a medical practitioner.
• FRANZCO or equivalent.
• Experience in paediatric ophthalmology.
• A high level of relevant ophthalmic clinical skills in the outpatient and operating settings.
• Excellent communication skills with children, their families, and all levels of staff and a positive attitude and demonstrated capacity to work harmoniously and collaboratively within a team.
