Te Kaunihera o Tāmāki Makaurau/Auckland Council has an opportunity for two permanent full-time Prosecutors to join its Prosecutions Team. One of these roles is based in Auckland City Centre with the other role based in Manukau. Both roles offer some flexibility to work from home or from the office, depending on your court commitments. Reporting to the Team Leader of Prosecutions, you will conduct prosecutions in the District Courts throughout the Auckland Region under the Building Act, Dog Control Act, Food Act, Local Government Act, Resource Management Act, and other regulatory legislation. You will observe obligations under the Criminal Procedure Act and the Solicitor-General’s Prosecution Guidelines, representing the Council with professionalism and integrity in all enforcement matters. Your legal skillset will focus on the effective conduct of judge alone trials, pre-trial and sentencing hearings, alongside the opportunity for civil enforcement proceedings and High Court appeals. You will also be required to provide pragmatic legal advice to Auckland Council enforcement officers and other stakeholders on matters relating to enforcement, investigations, and prosecutions. Thinking on your feet, responding to challenging issues as they arise and prioritising large volumes of work effectively will feature in your skillset. We are looking for someone who can deliver technically robust legal advice and has excellent advocacy and case management skills. The role will suit someone looking to grow into an experienced criminal litigator with an added specialisation in complex regulatory litigation. Strong relationship-building skills are essential as you advise and support internal client groups on criminal and regulatory litigation.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. A tertiary qualification in law and a current practising certificate.
  2. Experience in criminal law is strongly preferred.
