We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Australian Tax Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and reviewing tax returns, ensuring compliance with Australian tax laws, and providing expert advice on tax planning strategies. The role requires a deep understanding of Australian taxation regulations, including corporate and individual tax, GST, BAS, FBT, and superannuation compliance. Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance & Preparation
- Prepare and lodge individual, corporate, partnership, and trust tax returns in compliance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regulations.
- Review and submit Business Activity Statements (BAS), Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns, and Goods and Services Tax (GST) obligations.
- Ensure compliance with Superannuation Guarantee (SG) requirements and payroll tax reporting.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of tax planning strategies for clients or the organization.
Tax Advisory & Planning
- Provide expert advice on tax minimization strategies and planning opportunities for businesses and individuals.
- Interpret and apply changes in Australian tax laws to ensure compliance and optimization of tax benefits.
- Identify risks and opportunities related to taxation and provide proactive recommendations.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, ensuring alignment with Australian accounting standards.
- Conduct tax reconciliations and analysis of financial data for accurate tax reporting.
- Liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies to address tax-related queries.
- Work closely with clients to understand their tax positions and provide tailored tax solutions.
- Collaborate with internal finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
- Assist in responding to ATO audits, notices, and correspondence related to tax matters.
Process Improvement & Technology
- Identify opportunities to enhance tax processes and reporting through automation and technology.
- Stay updated on legislative changes and emerging tax trends to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA Australia, CA ANZ, or equivalent certification preferred.
- Registration as a Tax Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) (preferred but not required).
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in Australian tax accounting or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of Australian taxation laws, including income tax, GST, BAS, FBT, and payroll tax.
- Experience working with Australian SMEs, corporations, or tax firms is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, and ATO tax portals.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and tax research skills.
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with clients and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Experience in offshoring or remote accounting services for Australian businesses.
- Familiarity with Australian trusts, self-managed super funds (SMSFs), and tax structuring .
- Knowledge of ATO audit procedures and handling tax disputes.
