Location: Remote/On-site Job Type: Full-time/Contract Industry: Finance & Accounting Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented North American Payroll and Tax Consultant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing payroll processes, ensuring compliance with tax regulations across the United States and Canada, and delivering accurate and timely payroll services. The role requires expertise in tax reporting, payroll reconciliations, and staying current with payroll legislation and tax guidelines. Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Management:
- Process and manage end-to-end payroll for U.S. and Canadian employees, including bi-weekly and monthly payroll cycles.
- Ensure accurate calculation of wages, bonuses, deductions, and other payroll components.
- Tax Compliance:
- Ensure payroll tax filings are accurate and compliant with federal, state/provincial, and local tax regulations in both countries.
- Prepare and submit quarterly and annual payroll tax reports (e.g., W-2, W-3, 941, T4, and T4A forms).
- Reconciliation & Reporting:
- Perform payroll account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of financial records.
- Generate payroll reports for management and audit purposes.
- System & Process Improvement:
- Optimize payroll processes and implement best practices to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Work with payroll software systems to troubleshoot issues and ensure proper functionality.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll laws and regulations across North America.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and external regulatory requirements.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external tax agencies to resolve payroll and tax-related inquiries.
- Act as a subject matter expert on North American payroll processes and tax compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in North American payroll and tax consulting.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll laws, tax regulations, and statutory compliance.
- Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, or Workday).
- Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
- Experience with payroll tax filings and reconciliations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or equivalent certification is a plus.
- Experience with payroll process transitions and system implementations.
- Familiarity with tax compliance audits.
