Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Crane Electrician to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes and Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes used in the port's container handling operations. The Crane Electrician will ensure the safe and efficient operation of these critical systems to minimize downtime and maintain productivity. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Electrical Maintenance & Repairs:
  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of STS and RTG crane electrical systems.
  • Diagnose electrical faults and carry out corrective actions on crane electrical circuits, panels, and motors.
  • Repair or replace electrical components such as sensors, wiring, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), inverters, and other critical electrical parts.
  • Conduct testing and calibration of electrical systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Safety & Compliance:
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and protocols during the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety standards, regulations, and port-specific operational guidelines.
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to hazard identification and risk assessments.
  • Preventive Maintenance:
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities to ensure electrical systems operate efficiently and extend the lifespan of the equipment.
  • Work closely with the maintenance planning team to ensure planned maintenance tasks are completed on time.
  • System Troubleshooting:
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical issues, including fault diagnosis on control panels, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), motors, and control systems.
  • Work with other technical teams (mechanical, hydraulics, etc.) to address cross-disciplinary issues.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used, in accordance with port and company procedures.
  • Provide detailed reports on crane performance and any issues found or resolved during inspections and repairs.
  • Assist in generating maintenance schedules and reports for management review.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork:
  • Work closely with the crane operators, mechanical technicians, and other maintenance personnel to coordinate repair and maintenance schedules.
  • Provide technical support and training to junior staff and operators, as necessary.
  • Emergency Response:
  • Respond promptly to emergency electrical faults to minimize crane downtime and ensure uninterrupted port operations.
  • Support troubleshooting during operational hours and be on-call as needed for urgent repairs.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Education:
    • Technical certification or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electrical Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with the electrical systems of STS cranes, RTGs, or similar heavy lifting/port equipment.
    • Hands-on experience with PLCs, electrical panels, inverters, and variable speed drives.
    • Previous experience in container terminal or port environment preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of electrical circuits, controls, and safety systems in cranes.
    • Familiarity with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
    • Experience with power distribution, electrical motors, control systems, and crane control systems.
    • Knowledge of SCADA systems and industrial automation is an advantage.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
    • Good communication skills to liaise with team members and management.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
  • Certifications:
    • Valid electrical certification or license in line with local regulations.
    • Familiarity with crane operation safety standards and procedures.
