Overall Purpose of The Job: To ensure Technical policies and procedures are consistently applied across their assigned vessels. Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  1. Safety: Safety is our first priority. The Fleet Superintendent has, in cooperation with the Fleet Manager, the authority and accountability for ensuring constant safe operation and protecting the environment.
  2. Customer: Responsible for delivery of technical management service to the Customer and ensuring operational performance of the ship.
  3. Ownership: Own the operation of the vessels to the highest safety standards, managing maintenance, repairs, dry-docking, conversion or modification in line with Flag, Class and Statutory Requirements.
  4. Leadership: Authorise selection process of Senior Officers, build relationships with senior ship colleagues, conduct performance appraisals, and support personal development.
  5. Client: Serve as the first contact point for assigned vessels and provide timely reports regarding management, expenditure, and condition of the Vessel.
  6. Monitor: Monitor vessel performance trends and implement remedial actions as necessary.
  7. Report Issues: Ensure timely reporting of any issues affecting safety, environmental or operational performance.
  8. Planning: Plan Dry Dock, Vacation, Ships inspections, and prepare visitation plans.
  9. Quality: Prepare vessels for inspection/audit and ensure all third party inspections are passed.
  10. Reporting: Advocate for ShipSure and provide constructive feedback for continuous improvement.
  11. Finance: Coordinate information for the preparation of the vessels’ running cost budget and maintain strict control of expenditure.
  12. Day to Day: Discuss work plans, running costs, and other issues of concern with Ships’ Command.

  • Recognised Engineering or Naval Architecture qualification and/or relevant experience at sea.
  • Good communication (oral and written) and English language skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and interact with people at all levels.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • An ability to develop creative and effective solutions to problems.
  • 2 years’ experience as a senior shipboard officer on relevant ship type.
  • Previous experience as a Fleet Superintendent or in a Senior Engineering/Naval Architecture position in the Marine Industry.
  • Member of IMarEST and Engineering Council registration or other equivalent recognised professional registration.
  • Basic financial understanding and experience in administering budgets.
